Feb Movie preview

Here we go....

Nothing but sequels coming out this month and the best one of the bunch should be this one. The first one was a shocker and I won't lie, I'm interested in catching this one in the theater if Megan's up to it.

This is a franchise now?!? GEEZ!!! The first one was entertaining, I may go see this if Megan's up for it but how many times can someone live the SAME day over again! (note: they never made a Groundhog's Day 2 for a reason)
Never saw the first one, why start watching them now?

Any others I missed that I would care about? Let me know in the comments.

Firefy: Big Damn Hero (Review)

Last month I had the chance to read the first Firefly novel and it was good! It felt just like the TV series. This story takes place after the show but before the movie so all the crew is still there. Really impressed with how smooth the story was.

Looking forward to the next 2 coming out later on this year. Highly recommended if you are a fan of the franchise!

Top 100 (2019 predictions) #10-1

#10 Space Hulk

It was #11 last year when I said this game would never again see the Top 10 on my list. (it was #7 in 2016) But it defied odds and made it back in! Sadly, I have to predict this game will drop to my Top 30 only because I'm almost finished with the campaign and am worried if after I'm done with it, will this begin to drop like Mice and Mystics did when I finished its campaign as well? Guess I'll jst have to wait in see as the year goes by.

 #9 Orleans

I said last year this game was "solid" and wouldn't move....I was spot on. It was #9 last year so I'm going to say it once again holds its spot in the Top 10 by this time next year.

 #8 Fresco

Last year when it was #8 I thought it would drop out of my Top 10 but then I got to play it with all the expansions included and knew it would stay in my Top 10 thereafter. Competition down below on the list will continue to give this game a run for its money but if we keep playing games like we did last year, this game isn't budging!

 #7 Empires: Age of Discovery

At #36 last year I predicted this would make my Top 10 and it did. Superior worker placement game that carries so many paths to victory, there's nothing I don't like about it. Here's the deal, if I can play with a large amount of people....this game probably moves up. If not, it stays in the Top 10. End of story.

 #6 Vitivulture

At #7 last year I knew this one was a solid enough game to stay in my Top 10. I don't see anything changing in 2019 either. The Tuscany expansion is a MUST for this game or it falls down to my Top 30. No matter how many times I play it, I never get tired of it.

 #5 Grand Austria Hotel

At #6 last year this is another game that took a step up once Project Elite fell from grace. I didn't think it could go any higher on my list but this excellent dice drafting game exceeded expectations and moved into the elite Top 5 and I don't see it moving anytime soon.

 #4 Firefly

#5 last year, #3 the year before that. As long as I continue to play it, this game will never drop out of the Top 5. Best pick up and deliver game on the market!

 #3 Spartacus

#3 last year as well the only reason it doesn't go higher is because it's going up against games that are outside of its caliber. This game has, battles, bidding and betrayal. You don't need to watch the show to enjoy the game and my goodness is this a great game! Solid #3 in 2019 as well.

#2 Twilight Imperium (3rd Edition)

It's been #2 ever since I started my list and at the rate things are going it always will be. There is no other game like it and even though the 4th edition wasn't a big hit with my gaming group, we still brought it to the table 4 times this year, as always. But in 2019 we'll be going back to using the 3rd edition until more expansions come out for the 4th.
#1 Strat-o-matic Baseball

#1 since the creation of my list and no one will ever know how much this game means to me. I look forward to December as a Draft in new players, retire old and trade a few from team to team and this January 1st started my 2019 season. Not sure if I'll be able to finish it before the babies come but my goal is to get as much of the season over with as I can before they arrive. I can't see this game ever being toppled unless I'm unable to play my seasons every year and with twins coming...who knows?

Thanks folks,  this may have been boring for some of you but I love making these predictions then coming back a year later to see how I did.

Have a good one!

Top 100 (2019 predictions) #20-11

 #20 Lancaster

I must say I shouldn't be surprised to see this game rise from #25 last year into my Top 20, but I am. Last year I was afraid it would slip, but playing it with 5 players set it shooting up the list for me! Will be defy the odds and rise higher? I honestly don't see that but I was wrong last year when I said the exact same thing so who knows?

 #19 Amerigo

My first Stefan Feld game and I love it. Kind of wild to say, but I see this making a run for my Top 10 in 2019. The cube tower that determines what type of actions (and how many) you can take, is simply brilliant!

 #18 Bruges

Another great one from Stefan Feld. Again, I'm going to predict that I could see both Stefan Feld games rise next year, maybe even have both in my Top 10. This one has so many decisions you can make just on one card! Amazing game! Really deserves a reprint.

 #17 Thrash'n Roll

At #16 last year I said if the expansion didn't come out for it (which it never did OR ever will now) this game would drop from my Top 20....then I played it more and changed my mind. It only dropped 1 spot and that's because of a new game I added. I love this game every time I play it. I'm pretty sure I'll see it here in my Top 20 once again at the end of the year.

 #16 Pay Dirt

At #21 last year I predicted this had what it took to move up the list and it did just that! I adore this bidding/worker placement game. So underrated! I think this is as high as it gets however because the competition above is tough to break though!

 #15 King's Abbey

#35 in 2017 I predicted it would be in my Top 20 and it is! Now all it has to do is hold on to its ranking. I think it'll slip a few spots but stay in the Top 20 again for the next list.

 #14 Project Elite

It has been #4 on my list for the past 2 years but finally fell a bit because of the gun issue I mentioned in my video. Since weapons are random, you can end up with something that doesn't go in sync with your players special ability. Like having a long range weapon with a short range character advantage. For that reason it dropped. But the new edition's coming out soon and that will impact whether this game moves back up into the Top 10, or slips a few more spots on the list.

 #13 Versailles

Oh my. Loved by myself and my gaming group. It was #56 last year because I must have lost my mind when thinking about it. I predicted it being in my Top 30 last year but it exceeded expectations and made a run for the Top 10 coming up just short! Honestly don't see it going up any further but who knows what'll happen in 2019!

 #12 Long Shot

I love this game. Megan loves this game. My gaming group loves this game...so it's no surprise to see this game move up my list once again! #15 last year and #16 before that, this game keeps galloping up my list every year and I have to say, I was wrong last year when I said I didn't think it would make it any farther. Now I'm just wondering if 2019 will be the year it finally makes it into the Top 10...I'm going to say "Yes"
#11 Santa's Workshop

Shocked out how fast this game flew up my list. Biggest opening for a new game in my collection. It shines over the X-mas season but I'd play it any time of the year. If the tradition keeps up, I know this will be in my Top 10. I was blown away on how awesome this game is.

Top 100 (2019 predictions) #30-21

#30 Century: Spice Road and Eastern Wonders

I love these games evenly. True it may be because Eastern Wonders is so new that they're tied but I really enjoy the differences and similarities to each game. I called it last year when I said it'd be a Top 30 game and it is. Now I'm going to predict it rises even further on the list in 2019 because I'm finding new ways to love this game every time I play it!

 #29 Scoville

At #23 last year I could've sworn it was on the doorstep of cracking the Top 20, instead it went down. Maybe due to the last time I played the group I was with wasn't into it as much. But I still love this game and though it looks like it'll drop more ext year, I'm sure it'll remain in the Top 40.

#28 Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit

At #13 last year there was a time in 2018 when I thought this could make my Top 10, but I didn't get to play it last year and that's what led to it slipping in the ranks. I'm not ready to move it to the vintage list either because it's still going toe to toe with some great games. I predict I play this again and it takes back a spot in the Top 20!

 #27 Food Chain Magnate

At #19 last year I saw this one trending up but it went down. I have no idea why because 2018 marked the first time I ever won the game! I hear they're coming out with an expansion this year for it and I'm all ears about that! If I get to play it then expect this one to shoot back up in the rankings next time.

 #26 Stone Age

At #32 last year I said if it got enough plays it would see my Top 30 and it did. PLUS this also got a reprint so now its readily available to more people which is a good thing. This year I feel its going to be tough to stick around but it still stays in my Top 30.

 #25 Livingstone

At #17 I predicted this one right as well when I said it'd get bumped down to the Top 30. The reason I gave last time is the same I'll give now. There's a lot of up and coming games below that with a few more plays could jump this spectacular game so I predict it drops out of my Top 30 in 2019.

 #24 Las Vegas

At #18 I was concerned this game would drop a little due to it being such a simple dice game. Those fears turned out to be true and I think it'll happen again in 2019. Fun dice game but you could easily make your own version of it at home.

#23 The Voyages of Marco Polo

I'm not kidding, this one could hit my Top 10 next year. I think it'll hit the Top 20 for sure. Incredible game that floored me the first time I played it and the more I see of the game the more I like it. Why it took me so long to find out about this game I don't have a clue.

 #22 Stockpile

At #14 last year I said it'd never drop from my Top 20....and it did. Dang! Competition was tough this past year! I believe this one doesn't move much on my list. Such a great game and I never get tired of playing it.

#21 Splendor

#20 in 2017, #21 in 2016 yep...that's consistent! The expansion didn't effect the rating of this game much for me at all. I still love it more than Century Spice Road and it continues to be a hit at the table so I'm going to say it becomes #20 again in 2019 to keep up the statistics.

Teal

Oh Weezer...this is why I love you.

Just months before they release their much anticipated Black Album, Weezer surprised fans by releasing the Teal Album this morning at the stroke of midnight. All cover songs from the 80's and 90's.

That's awesome. Bought the CD off their website today. Well worth it. Just another reason why they're my favorite band out there!

Top 100 (2019 predictions) #40-31

 #40 Sons of Anarchy

This game gets no respect...even on my list! It was #27 in 2017 and #36 in 2016 so its bounced around my list the past few years. This is a low point for it and the longer Megan goes without playing it, it's going to hurt it more. My wife loves the TV show and wants to play the game with me but the times its come out she wasn't interested. If the trend continues, this one will fall even lower. (just like I predicted last year)

 #39 Deep Sea Adventure

From being #52 on the list last time this game continues to soar on my list. I haven't gotten tired of it yet! There's a lot of game in this little box and just like last year, I'm going to predict it continues moving up the ranks in 2019.

 #38 Dice Forge

This dice building game is the only of its kind. If it had a better theme it'd be much higher on my list but that withstanding, it's a solid game. I'm pretty sure it will hold right here in the 30s at the end of the year.
 #37 Aladdin's Dragons

Old enough to qualify for my vintage game list, this game is incredible. It deserves a reprint. Don't let the cover fool you. Wonderful game that my gaming group highly enjoys! I'm going to predict it stays in the 30s whether it moves up or down, it won't be by much.

 #36 Ristorante Italia

Last year at #42 I thought I nailed it for where it should rank but this game surprises me more and more and moved up the list this time. And well deserved too! Great game about running your own restaurant. I believe this game stays in the Top 40 again in 2019.

 #35 Big City

Right after my videos I saw they are reprinting this game. Wow. Good for them! This game could rise high on my list next time because I'm loving the many aspects to the game and finding new strategies to win as well. If the reprint didn't cost over $200 I'd have gotten it. But for now, I'm happy with the OG in my possession.

#34 Cleopatra and the Society of Architects

Last year I called it. I said it wouldn't move out of the Top 40 and it almost reclaimed its exact position on the list from last year at #33. Solid game. Everyone in my gaming group always loves to see this one at the table. We all have a good time. AND it's receiving a reprint as well! 2019 is shaping up to be quite a boon for reprints!

 #33 Coal Baron

at #31 last year I called this one too. I said it'd drop a few spots but that was all. I'm making the same call for this year as well. Nothing bad about the game but it may give up some ground to other games below it depending on how the plays go.

 #32 Descent

It was #12 in 2017 and #6 in 2016 so why the big drop? As I said in the video, this game didn't get played until after I'd recorded the videos in late November. We have played it since so I expect it to climb a few spots on the list in 2019 but am not sure it can make it back into my Top 20 because once you fall out, it's hard to get back in!

#31 Eketorp

In my review last year I said this game (ranked at #39) could go up.... I was right. Unbelievable game by Queen Games. A hidden gem in their collection to be sure. This game is the reason I don't want to play any other viking game. Love it and I'll be bold and say it finally cracks into the Top 30 next year!

Top 100 (2019 predictions) #50-41

 #50 Dice Town

This one slipped a little from the year before coming in at #43. It received a neat expansion last year with another coming out soon that I can't wait to play. Don't know if it'll keep its ranking but if it slips it won't be beyond 60.
 #49 Liguria

#47 last year it didn't slip by that much. A strong Queen Game that will surprise you the first time you play it because it doesn't look like much. It's the "prequel" to Fresco, one of my favorite games from Queen. It's also loved by by gaming group so I'm going to say it holds within my Top 50 for next time.
 #48 Formula D

#30 in 2017 and #10 in 2016 this game seems to be trending down but in reality I didn't get to go on our beach vacation this year and that's where we usually play it. So that's really the reason it dropped so much this year. I'm predicting it sticks around the Top 50 for me since it's a hard feat to climb up so high after a dip like this.

 #47 Battle Ball

From #22 it took quite a drop this year but that's because it's a two player game. If I see that trend continue in 2019, I'll move it to the Vintage list where it's been qualified for, for a while now. BEST football game out there!

 #46 Francis Drake

THIS is my pirate game! Nothing like it! I hope to play with 5 players and really see the game go in to overdrive! This game has great potential to move up the list this year since my gaming group loves it as well.

 #45 Rajas of the Ganges

I feel I might have been too conservative on this ranking too. The more I play it, the more I love it. I expect this one to move up a bit as well....maybe even surpass the dread pirate Drake!

 #44 Parfum

Moved up from #48 on my list, a game about making perfume...who knew?? To be honest, I see it edging up a little further in 2019 as well. Queen Games man, I'm telling ya!!

 #43 Thebes

Never played the Card game version, doesn't interest me. This game is SO unique with it's time track that determines player order and digging into bags for treasure while returning in sand tokens to the bag, making it more difficult for the next person when they perform a "dig" action at the same spot, just like an actual archaeologist! I'm thinking it'll follow Parfum up the list like last year when it was #46 and move up a few more spots.

 #42 Catan

#10 last year, #8 the year before that. 2018 marked its first huge fall on the list but I think it might be ready for a comeback in 2019! My entire gaming group loves the game (as do I) We played it all the time at the first of the year before I started enforcing different games at the table. That may have lead to its drop this time around so I won't be as hostile to it coming to the table as much this year. But will be a Top 10 game again? Doubtful.

 #41 Flashpoint: Fire Rescue

Oh the tragedy that is coop games on my list! #26 last year and #11 the year before that! None of my coops seems to stick. Can't talk enough about how great this game is, but the coop design will be a factor as it continues to drop farther down on my list in 2019.
