Cardco Anniversary

It was on this date Oct 31, 1993 that my favorite card and comic book shop "Cardco" closed down.

The store meant so much to me as a kid that once it closed I announced that I would be drawing a comic book in honor of it's departure.

I remember sitting there up in my room writing the first one and thinking "Am I even going to be able to finish this?!"

Well, 12 years and almost 400 comic books later I guess the answer was "Yes."

It never ceases to amaze me how much people enjoy these books. (or strips) In a way, it's kinda cool how the name "Cardco" is now remembered as a "Matt Wilkins Comic Book" instead of that little old shop I used to go to every weekend on my bike as a kid.

I'm glad it's brought enjoyment to you all and I hope it does it even more in the year to come. Have a great day folks and we'll see you tomorrow with another new strip!

Insane Crazy

Well folks, thanks for all the e-mails and phone calls (especially the one at 6:45 a.m.) over this weeks comic strip. Good to know you're still enjoying it.
I gotta admit, you people are the only reason we even do this at all. So I want everyone to have a wonderful weekend and get ready for next weeks exciting comic strip!!

All Hallows Eve***

Addition

I forgot to mention that last week I caught up with my neighbor who had quit. When I asked her what went wrong she started making up excuses like, she was going to call.... but her kids were sick?!
And she doesn't know what went wrong but she got a new job and decided to go straight to them. As for avoiding me for the past couple of weeks... she said she'd been busy.
My question is how can she be so busy... when she doesn't even have a job. Needless to say, we don't speak much anymore.

Next!

I forgot to mention yesterday that this weeks strip is another one of those that only a select few are going to get. The idea crossed my mind a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was so funny I had to go ahead and write it out for this week. You'll see (as time goes along) that my humor can take on some very weird ideas down the road.
But I still hope you enjoy!

So sorry about that one folks. I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again!

Weekend Frenzy

I feel bad for missing a day without posting (even though it wasn't my fault) so I'm making this weekend post. (that none of you will read until Monday I assume)
But the other day at work we had a costume party where everybody dressed up. Mine was kinda lame as I went as a guy from the 50's. But the guesses to who I was were amazing.
5 people thought I was a "greaser" from the movie "Outsiders", 3 people thought I was the Fonz and one thought I was dressed up as the lead singer of "The Cars". (I have NO idea why.)
But anyway, much fun was had and I'm just glad I got to where jeans at work. Man, I love blue jeans so much they can double as my pj's from time to time!
Ok folks, I'm off. Have a great weekend!

Phone Calls three

 Posted by Picasa

Again?!

Hi folks.
The reason for no posts yesterday was that my roommate had forgotten to pay the bill.... again. So we didn't get internet connection till late last night. This makes it the third time it's happened with this bill. He just doesn't grasp the concept of the word "due" that's printed out for him every month on the bill. (beautiful)
But here's the conclusion of this weeks strip, enjoy.

Sneaking across the border

Just to let you know, we've finally been invaded by Canadians here on our blog. We wondered long it would take them to discover us and just the other day... they did. But I want everyone to be calm, this is not to be considered a threat. We will handle the situation as it progresses and inform you on any security measures that may be needed to insure your safety.

Now with that said... welcome to the party Canada.... don't touch anything.

Now enjoy your day folks!

Phone Calls (one)

Answer the phone

As some of you already know, I have a big following at work. And because of that, I bring you this week's comic strip. It's part 3 of our "Phone Calls" series. Keep in mind these were actual calls taken at our center. I didn't even make them up!? They're way too funny on their own and now every time somone gets an "interesting" customer they always tell me about it and say "Are you going to put that in your comic strip?"
So for everyone one at work... this one's for you.

Back story

Just to let you all into the story behind the mask, the reason it frightens Kim so much is that one night (right before her wedding) she was having a sleep over with her friends. Well, an excellent party crasher came up to the door dressed exactly like this and it happened to scare lil Kimber, all the way to the bathroom, where she locked herself up for 10 minutes.

Now before we all start pointing fingers I'd just like to say that he's identity will remain secret, but I will say that he was a really cool guy and that at least I thought it was funny. (heh heh)

The new comic strip starts tomorrow folks!

Profiling!

Here we are at the end of another excellent week wondering how the days went by so fast!
My neighbor is still M.I.A. She even reparked her car now on the other side of the building to make it look like she's not home. Nuts.
So until then I want everyone to have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you next week!

Iron Monkey 3

Guess not

So let me guess.... none of you really got it this week did you. (oh dear) Well don't worry then. I'll come up with something better next week for you. You'll just have to forgive my weird humor every once in a while.
So a few weeks ago I got my neighbor a job with us at DirecTV and you know what she does this week? QUITS?!?
Now she avoids me when I come home in the evenings, even got to where she parks her car on the other side of the complex. She won't even answer the door when I knock!! How rude is that?!
Anyway I have plans to bump into her this week, even if I have to camp outside her door. I do think it's a funny situation for her though. She's lazy, so she quits but WHOOPS there's a problem! One of the people she works for (a manager in fact) lives right downstairs from her! So when she never showed up that day, never returned any calls, she now has the problem of making it in and out of her house everyday without being caught by me!
Then there's the lies she has to deal with. She told us she was a manger of a call center back in Atlanta and made boo-koo money there, so she was a "professional" at this. (in a sick sick way, I can't wait to see her face again when she will (undoubtfully) run into me in the future.... I'm sure it will be a thrilling tale to tell!!!
To be continued?

Bing

Have you ever noticed how one night can affect you for the whole week following if you don't get enough sleep? Man! I stayed up late Monday and have been paying for it ever since! But everytime it starts getting late I never learn to just close my book and go to bed early!! Guess that's what you get when you read Harry Potter eh?

Welcome to the first round of the brand new comic strip. I hope you enjoy. This one rings a little weird to me like the last one but without the "grossness" I hope you enjoy.

By the way, things go well with me. Work is a blast and life is as good as always. I hope you all are having just a good a time in your lives as well!

I'm off to go boss people around!

Back to normal

Well, thanks for all the e-mails (and even a phone call) asking me about the return of the comic strips. I'm glad you're all excited about it and I'm sure you're going to enjoy what we have in store for you! Today's pic is just me clowning around. Heh heh... but if this costume could talk it would tell you of about a million jokes it's had a hand in the past. (I'll say nothing more!)

Ok folks, have a great Monday to start off your week and I'll see you tomorrow with a brand new strip!

Farewell to San Diego

Well, that about does it for my trip to San Diego. As you can tell I had the best fun I've had all year at it and really hope I can do it again next year. I know it took a while to get all the pictures out but I needed the time off to work on my comic books.

Now that I'm done I'm pleased to announce that will we be getting back to the old comic strips from now on starting next week. (I have some great ones to show you)

Anyway folks until then, have a great weekend and we'll all meet back here next week. K? K.

Marvel

Well here I am, the president and CEO of Cardco Comix.... and standing next to me in this picture is one of the biggest people in the comic book industry itself! Joey Quesada, Head Editor and Grand Poo-Ba of Marvel Comics. (the people who brought you, Spiderman, X-man and the Fantastic Four for example)

I caught him just wondering around the floor like an ordinary guy. He's really down to earth and was excited when I mentioned a Crossover between both our companies.... ok.... maybe I'm exaggerating a bit on that last part, still.... it was cool to meet him.

I'm going places people... and mostly it's just to work!

Lando

Yes oh yes! It's me with Billy Dee!!! The orignal and only Lando Calrissian! This was a big victory for me! My collection is almost complete. I now have all the big players in Star Wars except one... Harrison Ford. And although I'll probably never get his, I'm still happy with what I came out with. Autographs truly were the #1 reason I went this year, but if I go again I'll probably focus on doing other things.... like flying.

Still up for being roomates Steve?

Image Comics

Now here was a bright and shining moment for Cardco Comix! Standing right beside me in this picture is the one and only Erik Larson. Head Editor and Chief of Image Comics. The creators of "Savage Dragon" and "Spawn".

It was really awesome to meet him and he was a very cool guy. I think I'm going places now since I was rubbing shoulders with him on the last day. Beware folks... I might just sell-out and join his company!! (if he knew who I was that is)

Final Stretch

Well, this will be the final week of pictures I'll be showing you from the comic con. I know it's taken a while to get them all out but as you can see, this was the most fun I had all year so I couldn't help it.

I have a little bit of a chest cold from last week and was just wondering why it feels like X-mas to me whenever I have a cold. I mean, shouldn't X-mas conjure up better memories than being sick all the time?

Anyway, I'm off to work, have a great day fans!
