Black Friday Sucks

This sales day is SO overrated. I haven't seen an interesting or enticing "must get" deal in years now. Not even amazon deals interest me anymore on this day. Same old same old.

But isn't it Black Thursday these days? I hate today.

Thanksgiving Feast

Back when we first stopped traveling to the grandparents over the holidays and having Thanksgiving with my parents a lot has changed.

We used to eat at noon on the dot. It quickly moved to 2pm, then a few years later to 4pm. Now it happens around 6pm for our family and is more or less an evening meal.

I don't mind it. Lots to do throughout the day and I usually play board games with my nephews anyway so it's fine. But by the time most people are warming up their leftovers, making a turkey sandwich, watching the football game or setting up Xmas decorations...my family is enjoying it's first meal.

Boy I love this day!

What the heck!? I blink and these suckers are already gone from McDonalds when they usually hang around until early January.

Sucks!

Xmas is ruined.

What I'm thankful for the most this year.

I love this little goofballs with all my heart. Thanksgiving just got 100 times better this year with them in my life.

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal

Stuffing hands down is the best part of the meal for me. I love it. I've had bad stuffing before though. Gritty and pasty. Thankfully Mom doesn't make it that way and she makes plenty of it so I can fill my plate up to the max!

No Xmas Before Thanksgiving

I think this pretty much sums up how I feel.

Xmas Shopping? Check!

By the way, a little fun fact. For the past 3 years I've completed all my Xmas shopping BEFORE Thanksgiving. The years before that it was usually done by Black Friday.

Since there really aren't that many good deals these day, I find it best to go ahead and get it over with and not have to worry about it as the season moves on. I hate last minute shopping. So I don't plan to do it any time soon.

Black Thursday

I've made my grief about this in the past but I hate that Black Friday officially begins on Thursday interrupting Thanksgiving. But that's just the way things are going to be now so there's nothing I can do about it.

But remember the first Black Thursday? Back in 1929 when the Stock Market crashed it was the name given for that particular day. These days it means something completely different than it did a few years ago. I wonder if anyone ever remembers the original use of the name now?

I doubt it.

WHA????

Found these this past weekend. I glad I got them before they left stores. Never even knew they made them but had to try them the moment I saw them.

I love me some pumpkin pie and I love Pop Tarts too.....but the two together? Fantastic! Wouldn't eat more than one box over the holidays but I plan to pick it up again if it's available next year. If you love the two of these as well (and you can still find it) pick up a box!

Pretzel goodness

One of my favorite snacks on the market these days is the pretzel bites by Synders. Cheddar Cheese is my least favorite but I get it every once in a while  when I want something different. The only thing missing from this lineup is Jalapeno flavor which is really good but a little harder to find.

This is my favorite road trip snack. I always pick up a bag when I'm on the road. Good stuff!

Hot Coco flavors

Recently I've discovered there's more to Hot Coco than just milk chocolate!

A couple of years ago I discovered Dark Chocolate coco and it's my favorite but this year Megan and I are seeing several more flavors enter the market. Mint Chocolate, Peppermint and Cherry Coco to name a few.

As a fan of hot coco, I also enjoy a few small marshmallows and a little bit a milk mixed in to make it the perfect winter drink.

Probably have some tonight as I unpack Xmas decorations. 

Best pizza

Since today is a day of feasting I thought I'd also mention that I think Sam's Club Pizza might be the best pizza on the planet.

The past few times I've had it, it's been unbelievably good! The crust is nice and cheese and topping are a lot and the cost is cheap. If you have one around you and haven't tried it in a while, I suggest you give them another shot. You just might agree!

Best Chicken Sammich?

Popeyes Chicken Sandwich is all the rage right now, but is it the best? Let's see...

 Chic-a-fila makes a mean spicy bird itself. But I have to agree on my list, it only makes #3

 Popeyes on the other hand beats it out due to the spicy pickles and sauce. The hype is real folks.

But there's an even better place in town that makes the best chicken sammich around! It's not even on their menu. You have to specifically ask for it. Believe me, it's the best chicken sandwich around!

Firehouse Subs Boycott

Don't get me wrong. i LOVE me some Firehouse Subs. In fact, it's my favorite place to eat...but not in Monroe. I'm boycotting them now.

It happened when I was going in to put up a poster for the Strauss Theater (like we've always done) and get some lunch.

But my time was getting in a crunch and so I decided to hold off and come back after making the last 2 poster deliveries. I asked the manager where I could put it up and she pointed to the window.

While walking out I looked behind me and saw that she was taking it off. I assumed to readjust it, but when I came back, it was gone. She'd thrown it away AFTER saying I could put it up. I turned around and walked right back out. I'll never go to this one again. From here on out the only time I eat Firehouse is when I'm on the road.

Until them...well, there's always 5 Guys!

Top 5 Cons I want to go back to

It's been a while since I've been to a convention, so here's the Top 5 I'd like to visit again some day.

 5) Arizona Game Fair

Only went once but had a blast and would go back again in a heartbeat! Hopefully this time around with more friends. Nice small con, with a decent size library.

 4) Fanboy Expo

Knoxville's always a beautiful place to visit and this con has always been fun to attend! Though the dealers aren't what they used to be, I'd still go back in a heartbeat!

 3) Dragon Con

Though overcrowded, it's still got a lot going for it. And the costumes at this event are incredible! I don't like the crowds but would be tempted to go back one day.

 2) Gen Con

The grandest gaming con of them all! No lie, it'd be a blast to go back one day but sadly I feel that's a ways off for me.

1) BGG Spring Con

Absolutely fantastic! The perfect size crowd the BEST selection of board games and unlimited non-stop fun! I hope I can go back in 2020. The early bird special last till the end of the month, so I still have a few days left to convince Megan to let me go : )

Angry Birds 2 Review

The first movie I found surprisingly good so when Megan told me she wanted to watch the sequel, I decided to give it a try. Pretty funny too though it goes a little too silly at times, the fact that it's made for gets makes that understandable.

Pretty fun movie. You got kids, watch it with them and enjoy!

We don't do weddings anymore

I remember the first wedding I was a part of that had no "adults" in it. I thought "Wow! Here we are sitting the ADULTS!!" After a while, that became the norm then (perhaps 10 years ago) the weddings I was a part of were few.

After getting married I believe I've only been a part of 2 and those were family. Now I'm seeing younger kids get married and I'm like "Whoa, I'm the old adult now!" Kind of crazy to see that happen.

If I were involved in another wedding, I'd probably feel out of touch with the rest of the party much like an older person would, but it's just wild to see life fly by so fast when you think about it!

Out of fashion?

Why don't we use rain coats more often? I never see them on adults and it makes perfect sense why we should use them more. Who wants to hold more things in their hands than they need to? I understand you don't want your pants to get wet but surely they make something for that too?!

Maybe I should look into getting me one. I had one a long time ago but not sure where it is now. I think it'd use it because it'd make getting in and out of my car for work a lot easier when I have one less thing to carry. Plus, umbrella's get forgotten and left behind all the time. Heck, I think half of the umbrellas I've ever owned end up sharing that fate.

Just a thought.

Remember missing kids on Milk Cartons?!

Nothing creeps you out than being a kid back in the day and fixing yourself a bowl of cereal as you looked at all the missing children that were out there in the world!

Kinda weird to think we did this back in the day. I mean, why milk cartons? I'm sure there's a reason but it's also kinda creepy when you think about it. And out of hundreds of kids who get lost every day how do you decide who gets to be on the carton that month?!

Maybe I should look in to this further and find more out. Like did this even work in the first place?

Oh well, just thought about it today and wanted to post about it.

Remember Magic Jack?!

Hard to believe it, but Magic Jack was so "amazing" just 10 years ago when you could use your computer to make calls to anywhere in the US FOR FREE!!!

They still sell this today though I doubt it's that popular anymore. I remember thinking "Wow, no more long distance calls!" Funny how far we've come with technological improvements in so short a time eh?

Remember Dime Line?!

Only cost 10 cents a minute to call someone long distance! I remember this being a STEAL back in the day. You could call someone "on the cheap" pretty fantastic when 10 minutes on the phone with someone only cost you a dollar!

Funny how we thought this was a great deal back in the day.

Train to Busan

Zombies on a train? That's what this Korean movie was set in and I'd heard good things so I checked it out. The version I watched was dubbed over in English which is rare these days because movies mainly use subtitles instead. Not that I'm complaining, I actually didn't mind it at all.

The movie is ok. Good idea but the execution is a little choppy in parts. Certain characters aren't given enough depth for us to care about while others (our main protagonist) is completely devoid of character.

I'd like to see an English version of the movie done but I don't know how likely that is.

Whoever said "You know what we need? A really HOT gummi bear!" Now that I think of it, how awful would it be to slip one of these into a regular bag of gummi bears as a prank for someone?

Yeah, pretty evil prank I have to admit. These are for sell on Amazon though if anyone's mean enough to try it.

Veteran's Day

Oddly enough, we get this day off at work....so....now I just have to find something to do today while everyone else I know is at work.....this sucks.

Us (movie review)

Last month at our fall vacation to the beach we watched Us. The first movie by this director was "Get Out" which I found interesting and I'd heard this one was even better, so I was interested in checking it out.

In fact, I even read where it was one of the "scariest" movies of the year, which got me REALLY excited to see it.

It sucked.

Everything. The acting, the plot, the tempo of the movie....everything was horrible. This was such a waste of time for me! I have no idea why people even found it "good" in the first place! The worst part was the "twist" at the end that WE ALL guessed from the very beginning of the film!! Who did they think they were fooling?!

Terrible waste of time. Worst film I've seen all year.
