September Movie Review

Whoa! Just realized the month was coming to an end! Ok, let's do this!

 Magnificent Seven

YES!! However, if you're talking about the new movie...then no.
 Blair Witch

This being such a shocker, seeing that they hid the release from everyone for most of the year makes me want to revisit this franchise, if nothing more than to get the awful taste of Blair Witch 2 out of my mouth.
 Morgan

I'll go...but you have to promise to wake me up in the theater after it's over.
Sully

Why make this movie? He landed in a plane in water when there was no where else to go. That's it. End of story. And the fact that Tom Hanks thought it worth his time makes it even more confusing to me.

Storks

How can a movie with this much potential, look like it sucks?! I'll never know since I won't be in the theater to find out.

Any other suggestions for movies in September? Let's hear them in the comments below!

GenCon 2016: The Games I played

Lift It! A fun game where you build things with the shapes by strapping a crane to your forehead and moving pieces around the board. Great game.
Of course we played us some Firefly. The guy in this picture had a great idea to buy card holders from Office Max to store all the playing cards in. I plan on doing the same thing for my game as well!
Thunder Road. I have the game...but it doesn't look like this. Some guy at the convention has this amazing version of the game that looks incredible!! I wish I was that talented.
My friend Jeremy, every day between 3pm-4pm and thereafter. Guess GenCon isn't made for the weak of sleep!

More coming tomorrow!

Chaz Marler from Pair of Dice Paradise.

This was the one of the best games I've ever played!! I was a fool not to buy it on the first day because it sold out right after!!
Another favorite game I played that week. (no joke)
Can't you see on my face how much fun I was having!?

More pics coming tomorrow.

90's Movies that deserve a sequel

This era already has abundant sequels being made within it. (Jurrassic World, Blair Witch
, Toy Story, etc) but I thought I'd add a few more to the list!

Labor Day

Just like Bill Murray's Groundhog's Day you can have another comedian live through the same day over and over until finally learning an important lesson in the end. Even have Bill cameo in the movie as the wizened old man who understands what the main character is going through and providing him advice.

I think it would be great!

The Nightmare After Christmas

In all honesty this movie would never be made but the sequel would focus on Jack's kids causing a ruckus among ALL of the holiday trees and ruins them for everyone. I think the concept would work though you'd have a lot of resistance from folks who hold the original movie in the utmost esteem and would borderline riot over seeing this in theaters.

But still, it's a cool idea.

Dead Alive 2

Let's put Peter Jackson to work on the only movie of his I ever enjoyed. Dead Alive COULD have been what the Evil Dead franchise is now but it didn't quite catch on as the other did. But you could still resurrect it with a sequel and bring it back into the spotlight.

Go ahead Hollywood....I'm waiting.

Desperado 4

The only thing wrong with "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" was that it was the last one in the series. I know that I'm not the only butt who'd take a seat in theaters to see another no matter what the story line is. And the actors aren't that old so it could still be believable if the studios gave it a shot.

Spawn 2

I know McFarlin's been aching to get this movie made but it doesn't look like studios are interested. I for one would love to see it though. I'm one of the few who think this was a pretty solid movie back when Super Heroes were unfamiliar to the silver screen. With better CGI even the first one could hold up to today's standards. (and well above those set by Superman V Batman)

But if they can't get this movie off the ground these days then GEEZ! I guess we'll never see it.

Have a good weekend folks!

80's movies that deserve a sequel

In Hollywood, it's all about the reboot these days. But some studios are finding profit in creating "soft sequels" that show the old characters, yet introduce new ones to the franchise. Like "Independence Day: Resurgence" for example.

So today, I thought I'd go through some 80's movies and give you what I think would make great sequel reboots:

Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money

This movie would almost print money, it's so guaranteed to succeed. There's a million rumors on the internet why or why it isn't coming back but it'd be so simple to do.

You really bring in the old class, combine them with new actors from the Disney movies and you have yourself a sure fire thing. Maybe Hollywood isn't ready to rake in more cash than i already has, but as long as this fruit hangs on the tree, the lower the branch will go till someone finally reaches for it.

Fright Night 3

Another no-brainer for Hollywood in my opinion. The story takes place 30 years later as Charlie takes the role as the old man who believes in vampires in a world where kids consider them to sparkle. Eve more epic, they could add a scene where glitter is thrown on a vampire during the action to add to the comedic effect.

Heck, I'd even take a straight to DVD release to see something like this! I sure hope there's some exec out there with half a heart for this flick, that they'll put something together before it's too late.

Short Circuit 3: Outdated

So these movies don't hold up over time. In fact, they're awful compared to the other classics that came out around the time. But hear me out, a movie could still be made that would totally redeem the series.

Bring all the characters back and have them contemplate death. Kill off Stephanie perhaps? Johnny 5 realizing that he's an outdated program with all the new technology of the day. And just like plastic surgery, he can upgrade his system, but an old computer is still old no matter how many bells and whistles you put on it.

Johnny could contemplate being outdated and losing himself within all the many upgrades before he become a shell of what he was. (pun intended)

Put me in Hollywood, I'm ready to write this thing!

Ferris Bueller's 2nd Day Off

John Hughes played around with the idea of doing a sequel where both men are older (30 years down the road)

Cameron has checked himself in to an old folks home at 50 and Ferris hates his job. So he decides to take an unscheduled day off. Breaking his friend Cameron out of his retirement home, the 2 besties take to the road once again for another hilarious adventure....only to have Cameron's heart give out in the end and pass away quietly in the car on the way back home.

Yeah....kinda dark in the end but I'd go see it!

The Next Starfighter

A sequel to The Last Starfighter would write itself. It could even start out on earth. A boy lives with his grandmother with no knowledge of who his father is. He's great at this game online which (once again) turns out to be a recruiting test for an intergalactic war.

The story could continue, to show him being recruited and finding out his dad is Admiral of the entire armada who had no intention of his son joining the fight. He discovers he was sent to earth for his own safety. After a short argument with his father that he can fight, Lance's son is sent home back to earth with the game "restricted" from his system.

But it's too late.

Spies within the armada, report where the Admiral's son is and a kidnapping is attempted! After the failed kidnapping, Lance has no other choice than to have his son fight in the fleet. And....well you get what happens from there.

Man this was fun! Methinks I'll do it again tomorrow!

The Fundamentals of Caring

And since I'm on a movie recommending role this week, I thought I'd tell you about the next film I saw.

I don't watch many movies. Don't really have the time. But a few weeks ago while working on the road, I'd finished both books I'd brought and got bored the last few nights I was there.

That's when I started cruising Netflix for something to watch and I came across this. I'll be honest, twas Paul Rudd that drew me in and I wasn't sure what to think of it at first since it was a Netflix Original movie, but it turned out to be a good story, with humor and very much worth my time.

I saw a bunch of stinkers too that week. Like Circle. Don't waste your time there folks! The wannabe "Cube" movie with no imagination, plot or character development.

If that last sentenced meant something, welcome to the "cool" nerd club.

The Big Short

So after a few recommendations from co-workers, I watched this movie on Big Banks and the housing market crash. VERY good. One of the best movies I've seen this year.

Acting's great, story is incredible and they do a good job of showing you what a lot of banks did wrong.

Thankfully, the film acknowledges that though JP Morgan Chase made money AFTER the crisis (buying up bankrupt lender loans) they were not involved with what started the crisis.

If you care about the events and want to know a little bit more about what went into the housing crash of 2008 than I'd say this movie's for you!

More Tempe Pics

Me giving the high five to a statue.
Man I love taking these pics!
Megan just had to try the Triple Sundae at the ballpark. $25 for over 2 pounds of ice cream. Yesh!!! And yes, we finished it but I will not eat ice cream for at least the next few weeks because of it!
 The ballpark was beautiful.
And we had a good time while we were there. Hopefully we can do it again some day.

Have a good weekend folks!

Tempe Pics

Today I wanted to show a few more random pics I took of our weekend in Tempe.
I got to play Star Wars Armada at a friends house that week. Super cool game but way to expensive to collect for my taste!
Megan even joined me for a meal at US Fries. She got the Chicken Fajitas fries. Pretty good stuff!!
I meant to post this earlier this week but here's what life looks like from on top of the mountain. Amazing stuff!

More antique finds

While in Tempe, Megan and I of course did some antique shopping together. I was excited to have her with me on the trip!
My favorite baseball player....but I couldn't pull the trigger on getting it.
Reminds me of the good ole days!
Even came with a matching thermos and for a great deal too!
Vintage toy chest. Gotta love it!

Megan climbs a mountain (5)

The aftermath

Megan climbs a mountain (4)

One more video coming up soon...

Megan climbs a mountain (3)

Through each leg of the trip I expected her to collapse but instead she kept climbing to the top!

Megan climbs a mountain (2)

Amazingly enough, I she hung in there!

Megan climbs a mountain (1)

So in a recent trip to Tempe, AZ Megan was able to join me for the weekend and we had a lot of fun.

But one of the first things she wanted to do was climb a mountain so....
