Old Faithful

Well well well! After being cut by the Rangers at the end of Spring Training it looks like the 45 year old Bartolo Colon will be pitching for them after all! He signed a contract to pitch next week and if things go well there's an outside chance he could stay on the roster and continue on with the team.

I hope things go well for him. Not many players left in the game that are older than me! I'll be cheering for him when he hits the mound later next week!

Let's Go Mets!

With the season starting this week we're at #1!

I need to celebrate it while I still have the chance

April Movie Preview

Let's see what we have on the slate for this coming month in theaters!

 Avengers: Infinity War

No way am I getting out of seeing this one. The Mrs will surely drag me to the theater to see it, though I admit to being curious of what it's about.
 Rampage

I just have no desire whatsoever to see this flick. Could be good but I'm not feeling it.
Super Troopers 2

I remember when the Kickstarter campaign to get this movie made came out. I was all for it. I loved the first one and it's kind of become a "Cult Classic" over the years. With the right group, I may go see it. I will for sure check it out at Redbox if I miss it on the big screen.

Well, that's all I care to mention coming out for April. Have a good weekend folks!!

Eating Alone

One of the things I hate seeing the most is someone eating alone. I can tolerate it during the lunch hour because I know people are just grabbing something quick between work. I also am fine seeing it in coffee shops as well since people go there for peace and quiet outside of their normal lives.

But when someone goes out to dinner by themselves I just can't stand it. I hate doing it myself when I'm on the road, which is why I only do counter service and (when I can) take it to go and eat back at the hotel.

Is there something you hate seeing others do? Let me know in the comments!

Tea Time

I drink a lot of tea. More so every year. I used to only drink it with cream and sugar. A few years ago I dropped the cream and just added sugar but lately I've dropped the sugar and just drank it as is. Kind of wild seeing as where I started. I could NEVER drink plain tea on its own but now I guess I've come to appreciate it more.

I have boxes of tea leaves and even a metal "dipper" for the cup. I don't boil water in a tea pot yet but I'm sure that will come later down the road.

I'll be acting like an old lady in no time at this rate.

The Cloverfeild Para....waste of time

Took me a while to see this film. I loved 10 Cloverfield Lane but this garbage wasn't even worth my time. What a horrible pointless story that just had the word "Cloverfield" slapped on to it so people would give it a shot.

The characters are boring, bland and you don't care about a single one. The story is unbelievably WORSE than the characters in it! It makes no sense, nothing is explained and it in no way connects to the other films.

This is garbage. I won't be fooled again when the next one comes out. I'm done.

The Polka King (Review)

Got a chance to watch this on Netflix last month. Based on the true story about the guy who jipped some old people's money out of there hands through an insane ponzi scheme, is sort of unique to watch and wild to think about it being true. You can also watch the documentary on Netflix as well which tells the true account.

Jack Black does a great job and this was better than the documentary which was a little....weird. This guy convinced thousands of people to invest in his "Polka Empire". Amazing people would think that was a good idea.

Anyway, if you're interested, it may be worth your time.

Puss in (the) Boots: Final Season Review

All my favorite cartoons are ending from Netflix! First it was All Hail King Julian and now it's Puss in Boots.

Though not as witty as King Julian, it still had me chuckle every episode here and there. I loved the characters and the story was especially sad in the end. Really good finale that tied everything up, with flashbacks from previous seasons (where they even fit in an ongoing joke) I loved it.

The Shrek movies were ok for me. The Puss in Boots movie was enjoyable and this series has been just as good.

Guess I'm going to have to find something else to keep me occupied during breakfast and lunch!

Star Trek TOS (Review)

Last year our movie theater played Wrath of Kahn so Megan and I went to see it. Like any good Star Trek fan that's worth his dilithium crystals, we re-watched "The Space Seed: episode prior to attending the film to get the back story set up.

It got me wanting to watch the original series all over again. So for the past few months each night I've been watching a few episodes and reliving those memories. Though I was always a bigger Star Wars fan back in the day I did enjoy Star Trek growing up.

My brothers and I would pretend to be the cast and go one adventures in our back yard. My fondest memories were when my Dad would be gone to a late night meeting and Mom would let us sit and eat by the TV while we watched an episode. I still remember which episodes they were upon re-watching the series. Its one of the best memories I had growing up!!

I love the Original Series best, it just feels the most like Trek. I'll be making my way through all of them now after talking to a friend of mine who's also a Trekkie. It's been 10 years since I've down it and now is the time with all the series and movies streaming.

Still not interested in watching Discovery or re-watching the reboot movies so I think I'll stop at Nemesis and that'll be enough. Afterwards, Scotty will just have to beam me up so I can start re-watching a totally new series after this......Stargate perhaps? Hmmmm.....

Sons of Anarchy Comic (review)

After watching the series last year Megan and I became big fans of the franchise. We bought the only spinoff novel they made of the series and for X-mas, I bought Megan the entire collection of Boom Comics.

Though she hasn't had the time to read them, I recently read through them and found them to be quite enjoyable. They take place in-between seasons really, with little one off stories that mainly deviate from the TV story line, though a few do connect.

They also bounce around in the time line without telling you. Some characters are dead (after being killed off in the TV series) while in later issues, they're brought back for a story arc before their death.

A little confusing but not enough to lose the reader. All in all I thought it was a pretty good comic. If you enjoyed the show, I think you'll enjoy these as well!

New Years Resolutions (Update)

March is rolling around and I found out (at the end of January) that I'd meet all my goals.

1) Got a refi on my mortgage

Check! Folded it into a 15 year loan, shaved 6 years off and have a lower monthly payment!

2) Throw more stuff away

Check! (and still ongoing) For 3 weeks straight my garbage bags had to sit on top of the trash can because it was full of stuff I've been throwing away in the house. I've cleared more space in the house than I ever have and I'm not anywhere close to stopping!

3) Get in shape

In February I weighed the lowest I ever have since highschool. Now that wasn't the goal but still I was impressed. I'm still working out but I'm going to give this one a "check" myself!

I've never met my goals this quick before so I'm trying to think of more to add. They may seem a little weak, but here goes!

4) Finish reading Marvel comic collection I got last year.

It's been slow going so far but I'm almost half way there. I hope to get them all read by the end of the year.

5) Read online book list.

I have a library app that lets me borrow 12 books a month. I made a "favorites" list of them all and plan to read each one this year. Again, this one may take a while but at least it'll keep me focused on the goal for the rest of the year.

I'll let you know in a few more months how I stand.

Un-Bahr-able

It was all over the news the past few weeks so I thought I'd go ahead and mention it but last week Joy Bahr mocked Christians and their faith, referring to Vice President Pence's religion as a "mental illness"

Of course this outraged people but her forced 5-second apology didn't come out until a week later and it was obviously forced.

She looked like one of those kids who pushed another one down on the playground and called him names, only to be called out by his mother and forced to apologize. You've seen it, heck I've ever been the one giving the apology as a kid!

You're not sorry, you're just pissed you didn't get away with it and you try to change the subject so that no one brings it up again. That's EXACTLY how she sounded. And people should find that VERY unsettling.

It's sad that in a world that "upholds" the standard of treating everyone fairly, that when it comes to Christians, they really don't care what they say about them. I have no doubt if she'd said Muslims are mentally ill, she would have been fired from the show.

Incredible to see the double standard we have today in the media.

Let the door hit you on the way out

So the news came out this week that Toys R Us is closing all their stores....good. I won't miss them. They were a shining example of how high prices and terrible service DO NOT go hand in hand. I don't have one single good memory from my childhood going here and I surely won't miss them as an adult.

Back in the day the store I loved in Jackson Ms, was Toby's Toys. A small hometown rival of Toys R Us who eventually closed their doors. To me Toby's Toys was better all around and I was sad to see them go. I still remember where the store was located in Jackson and think about it every time I pass by!

As for these bums, Bah! Good riddance!

For the Love of the Game (Review)

I re-watched this last month and forgot how good it is. Sure it's a love story but that the flashbacks happen between innings is pretty good.

Sam Raimi has a good eye for direction and cinematography and it shows in the film. Glad I got a chance to see it again. It's no "Field of Dreams" but it's still a good one.

Have a good weekend folks!

Calendar Dayz

Something I did last year and (am continuing to do now) is mark on my calendar what I did on a particular day. Whether it was read a book, watch a movie, play a board game or go out with friends. I've recorded each time.

Now I'm steadily going through my calendar and looking what I did EXACTLY a year ago to the date! It's so cool remembering things that happened and knowing that information. For example, I know that exactly one year ago today Megan and I rented the movie "Trolls"

.....hmmmm, that's really something I'd care to forget but anyway, it's cool knowing it happened a year ago today.

If you keep a calendar in your house, try this out. It'll pay off by next year I promise.

Awake (movie review)

After years of forgetting this movie existed, I finally got the chance to watch it last month so I wanted to give a short review.

The movie is surprisingly excellent. I remember my Dad renting it years ago when it came out and telling me that, but I never gave it a chance. A shame, it was a very enjoyable flick. So good that even Megan put down her phone and started watching the movie!

If you haven't seen it, I'd definitely give it a shot.

Murder is Served (Closed)

It's truly an end of an era but the Dinner Theater started by Steve Munz years ago is officially closed for good. No one wishes to take the reigns up and bring it back so it's unceremonious ending was in 2017 and no one ever knew.

I'd like to keep it alive myself, but then again, I don't have the time either. It's a real shame because it had a lot going for it and there were some pretty awesome scripts I wrote that now won't see the light of day.

Maybe someday someone else will revive the brand, if that day comes, I'd sure like to be a part of it.

I have loads of good memories, I'd hate to find out its era has come to an end.

Wetworks review

Another series I was given by my brother for X-mas was the first few issues of Wildstorm's Wetworks comic. I remembered reading this from my younger brother back in the day. A strike team that got synthetic skins and embarked on a mission to hunt down vampires.....how much cooler can you get?!

The characters were well written and well drawn. The art again (for the early issues) were fantastic. There's a reason these sold back in the day. I liked how each character was evolving in the story as well.

A part of me wishes I had the entire Wildstorm run from back in the day, but that would take more dedication to track down than I think is worth it at the moment.

Good stuff though! Enjoyed this universe much more than anything I've read in Marvel comics so far!

Fireball Island (Coming Soon)

Coming soon is a Kickstarter I can't wait for! A NEW version of Fireball Island! One of my favorites as a kid. I can't wait to see it restored!

So far the board looks great. I will for sure be backing this project when it comes out later this year.

Backlash Review

I finally had time to read the Backlash comics my brother got me for X-mas last year. Fantastic series. It makes me miss the old days of Wildstorm comics. The only draw back is the later issues where they switched artist and the comic looked terrible.

I wonder if that was what started its downfall? So many great artist on so many B characters, they made a huge difference when reading each issue.Sadly (in the case of Backlash and others) they were replaced by sub-par artist who fell into the common style of the early 2000's with their "American Manga" look that cheapened the entire comic series.

Still a decent read, wish I had more!

National Treasure movies (Review)

I finally got the opportunity to see the Nation Treasure movies. The first one is a fun adventure romp which is what you'd expect from movies at the time. Full of one liners and convoluted plot lines, that you don't mind so much because it's still a fun popcorn movie to review.

By the time you get to the  second one however it starts feeling like an old hat. The story is rushed, unrealistic and the "fun" quickly fades into repetitiveness.

So in my opinion, microwave some popcorn and watch the 1st one on Netflix when you have the time. Skip the 2nd and live the rest of your life happy.

I Don't Feel At Home in this World Anymore (Review)

Last month I watched a Netflix original that was surprisingly good. I didn't know what to expect at first in this quirky....um, adventure? Drama? Comedy?

In a nut shell, a girl has her house broken into while she's away and goes on a quest to retrieve her items as well as catch the perpetrator. She teams up with her odd neighbor (Elijah Wood) and it makes for a pretty enjoyable flick!

So if you're sitting around with nothing to do one day, I believe this movie's worth your time!

Kingsmen: The Golden Circle review

After many months, I finally got around to seeing the sequel to the Kingsmen. If you haven't seen the first movie before, go watch it. It's a good one. The sequel is good but pokes a little more fun at the story line than the first did.

Lots of jokes, some "007" ridiculous moments and even Elton John has a small role in it. I believe the first one was better but that doesn't mean the sequel was any worse. Glad I had a chance to see it and if you loved the first one, The Golden Circle is definitely for you.

Ms Marvel Review

Continuing through reading my comic collection, I read all of the Ms Marvel comics. (there were only about 50) I didn't really know much about the character and after reading the comic, I don't feel I know her any better. She had some relationship with the old school Captain Marvel, but that's about all I got out of the series. Very confusing and choppy stories, that throughout 10 issues, lost me completely due to the fact that they couldn't stay consistent to one story plot.

For example, in one issue we see Ms Marvel in regular clothes (though she claims not to be Ms Marvel in the scene so you're not really sure) as she's about to punch a guy at a party for "trying to kill me a long time ago!"

The following issue has nothing at all to do with the cliffhanger and is a story from her past before she got her powers. The 2nd issue follows along with the "past" storyline and we finally get to meet the guy she met at the party who tried to kill her. (Ah, good!)

But then the next 2 comics is a mis-adventure with Spiderman that has nothing to do with the ongoing plot. At least I couldn't see the connection. Follow that with another story of her past, then a one-off story of a mutant kid she discovers who can re-write...time....the past....with his mind. (it's not really explained but whatever he read comes to life, even if it was in the past)

Move forward to 2 more stories of her with Shield and finally we get to see where started off all those issues ago. VERY random.

But that's not all! Because later on in this 50 issues I read, she dies and another character takes her place. It's a villain pretending to be her in disguise. As Ms Marvel, she start killing the bad guys or putting other citizens in danger and....nobody cares?! Take mind this is after the Civil War story plot which lead to the public having a huge problem with Super Heroes acting that way. But NO ONE seems to mind when the new Ms Marvel is handing out Justice?!

It then get more confusing when (several issues later) the real Ms Marvel appears out of thin air and starts fighting with the Newer version. But after 2 issues we see her alter ego Caroll Danvers, watching the fight between the 2 Ms Marvels on TV at a bar and say "How is this happening?"

At this point I'm super confused because nothing is making sense. How is she alive, and who is the "old" Ms Marvel. Well, in the next issue we discover that Carol Danvers doesn't even think she's Ms Marvel but she still has a nagging feeling to investigate it at the Avengers HQ to understand why she's feeling.....strange or weird. They don't really say why.

Upon arrival the NEW Ms Marvel tries to kill Danvers on the spot even though the opponent she's been fighting the past few issues before is in custody and she knows it.

To add to the confusion, Carol has someone in her head (we are lead to believe it's the other Ms Marvel) telling her to go away. So now you believe that her personalities are split. Though you still don't know why this happened or how.

BUT WAIT! They end up killing Danvers, who turns into (as best I can describe) "space blocks" and floats away, back into the old Ms Marvel who clobbers the newer version.

After giving up on anything making sense the writer reveals that you've been watching a story told from the mutant who we read about 20 issues ago who was trying to give the original Ms Marvel a "happy ending" by living as an ordinary person, but Danvers' conscience (unknowingly) forces the old Ms Marvel back into the "story" that ruins her new life.

Before we are left with any aftermath to what happened, Captain Marvel comes back to life without explanation and Ms Marvel uses the last two issues of her series to track him down and find out who he is.

This Captain Marvel kills innocents so it's obviously not him, but in issue 50 we discover it IS him but he doesn't know how he came to life either.

That is the point where my collection stops and I'm happy it did. The story was awful. The art was mostly good but overall, a terrible waste of time. (why couldn't this guy have collected DC Comics instead!!

Iron Man Comic Review

Though it took me a little longer than planned, I finally finished my Iron Man comics. Over all the story's not bad. The stories are tied up in one issue a lot of the time, with exceptions down the road as the series made it into the 2000's. Oddly enough, I enjoyed Thor more I think.

Tony Stark gets a lot of time outside the armor. I guess the writers wanted to focus on his business side more than Batman did with Bruce Wayne. It made for more than one boring comic in the run however.

Moving on to Ms Marvel next. It's much shorter a collection. I'll be done with it shortly.

Have a good weekend folks!

Things I miss most when on a diet

Every once in a while I decide to diet and when I do, I go hardcore baby! Chicken, Fish, Salad and eggs are just about all I do. I don't mind it because I want to drop the weight but there are things I miss when I'm on one. Here they are....

Cookies

Of course I have to miss my sweets and it's not candy bars or ice cream. I just LOVE a soft cookie and when they're warm.... oh man.... best thing ever!
 Soda

Strangely enough I like having a soda every day! When I'm off the diet I only restrict myself to one a day but sometimes will skip desert for a second!

Sandwich

This sounds stupid but I can't have bread and I LOVE sandwiches. More than burgers, sandwiches can be made with anything and the fact that I love me some Subway makes me always hungry for one when I'm on a diet!
