Top 100 Board Game 2016 (50-41)

#50 Boggle

Dang I love this game! Trying to grab as many words from a jumble of letters in under 3 minutes is where I shine! I even play the app on my phone from time to time. No matter how much I play, this is one of my favorite classic games!

2017 Prediction: This one is right where I want it to be. I may go up but not down on my list for next year.

#49 Say Anything

I hate party games but this is the best one out there. And it's a huge favorite of mine to bring out at every party. Even if the guests we have over don't play games, they enjoy this one. How it works is one person picks from a category and the others write down what answer they think is best. Next, everyone places bets on which answer the hist will pick and scores are given out for each correct guess and whoever wrote the answer.

Player with the most points at the end of 10 rounds end.

I can't tell you how many times you'll finish and game and say "Let's go again!" It's THAT fun!

2017 Prediction: Another strong game on the list which may also move up but never drop down that far.

#48 Survive!

You're meeples on an island that's slowly sinking and you have to make it to shore. But getting to shore isn't easy. Sharks, whales, squids and sea monsters block your path! Your fellow castaways are also trying to make it to shore and send the danger after you! Person with the most meeples to get safely to shore before the island erupts, wins!

This is another game which has been around for a while. I bought the newer version because it looked like it had more to deliver. It does. It's so much fun killing off other players, while scurrying to shore.

2017 Prediction: This one could fall a little since it rarely gets played anymore. It's still a fine game that I hope to bring to the table more in the future!

#47 Snow Tails

A recent addition to my collection. In this game you're dog sled racing in the alps. Playing cards to balance out your sled to pull one way or the other depending on the turns. It sounds boring but it's more fun than it sounds believe me. I've played it a lot recently and it's the perfect "winter" game to play for the season.

2017 Prediction: Unknown. I love the gameplay. If it keeps coming out to the table it may mush up a few spots on the list. Pun intended.

#46 MidEvil

Another game from Twilight Creations that "borrows" from the Army of Darkness movie that they couldn't get (or afford) the rights to. In the game, you've gone back in time to find the neronomicon and defeat the evil!

It carries 2 expansions and every time we play it, the game comes down to the wire. So many epic tales have come through these plays that they're the stuff of legend now around the table. Great game.

2017 Prediction: Unlike the previously mentioned games from the company, this one will probably hold the same spot on the list next year.

#45 Batman: Gotham City Mystery

There's not many super hero games out there that are fun. But this game IS. You play as Batman, Robin, Nightwing or Batgirl fighting crime in Gotham and trying to figure out who the mastermind is behind it all. One player is the bad guy and they are given a list of things to collect around town. If the villain get everything on their list before being discovered by the caped crusader they win. But whenever a henchman is apprehended, you take the crooks item (which is a slip of cardboard) and place it into the Batcomputer, which helps you narrow down your search for who the villain is.

It's hard to explain how the batcomputer works without showing the game but it's a simple feature that was brilliantly executed. Easily one of the best super hero games out there. The pawns looks great and the theme makes you feel it jumped straight from the comics!

2017 Prediction: Another game that should stick around the top 50 come next year.

#44 Quartz

You're a dwarf, mining jewels out of a bag. Different jewels and combos can be cashed in for different amounts. But don't get the black stones! Pull 2 of them and your out of the round with nothing to show for it!

This is a push your luck strategy game that is loads of fun for everyone. I saw it at GenCon this year but never got the chance to play it. After hearing about it online I took a risk and bought it. Paid off. A solid game that everyone in my gaming group seems to enjoy.

2017 Prediction: This game has potential to jump high in the ranks next year. It's still new to me now, but after next year I'll have a better understanding on where this game falls.

#43 King Oil

In this game you're an oil baron, growing your business and crushing your opponents. The game is on a raised board with pin holes in it where you use your "oil rig" to drill for oil. Some spots are dead, while others are full up! And to keep it a mystery on which holes will be ripe for drilling, there are 3 disc under the board which you can shift and change the settings of the holes. Smart game with a cool mechanic to keep things fresh. This is one of my little nephews favorite games and mine as well!

2017 Prediction: I believe this one has enough interest to keep it's spot in my top 50.

#42 The Adventurers: Pyramid of Horus

Your treasure seekers, looking inside a pyramid and taking as many things as you can before the whole places collapses. Several dangers will hinder your exit and you have to keep track of time because if you stay too late you'll be trapped forever!

This is basically a board game made after The Mummy. It doesn't say it, but it sure feels it. The first time we played it I got the rules wrong and made it too hard. The 2nd time around was much better and made me realize how good this game is.

2017 Prediction: Hard to say. I think it will stay around the same ranking next year if the game plays continue as is.

#41 The Adventurers: Temple of Chac

This is actually the first board game that came out before Pyramid of Horus. I like it better because of it's Indiana Jones theme. You're still collecting treasures just facing different obstacles like a rolling stone, closing walls, lava pits and what not. I played this a long time ago and forgot the name until recently this year. Happy to have it in my collection now.

2017 Prediction: Like the previous game, this will all depend on how much it gets paid but I'm guessing it'll hold fast at this ranking next year.
