May movie preview

Blah blah blah movies. Blah blah blah May. Blah blah blah, let's just get this over with.

Fast and Furious 9

I hope this is the last one I have to see...when it comes out on Redbox.

Insidious: Dark Realm

I think I stopped after the 2nd or 3rd one of these. Either way, I didn't see the last one and won't see this one either. Done with this tired out series.

 Scoob

What a heaping pile of burning worthless garbage.

Spongebob: Sponge on the Run

On a positive note, at least I'm not spending movie or time in the theater this month.

Have a good weekend folks!

Ford vs Ferrari (Review)

I'd heard good things about this movie so I decided to give it a try. Not bad. I like movies based on historic moments and though I'm not the biggest racing fan it was a fun film to watch. Both leads do a good job with their characters and the story is pretty good.

Now I just need to read up on the real story to see what really happened.

Overall, worth your time.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (Review)

Back when I was in college, I used to love movies with Jay and Silent Bob. But as I've grown up, these movies haven't and even when I think they might have a chance at redeeming themselves...they don't.

The premise is about how Hollywood reboots movies these days. I thought it was a good idea but they do exactly all the things they make fun of in Hollywood.

Now you could say that was the whole point but it really ended up being a lame retread on every old joke from their previous films.

The problem? Their last couple of films sucked just as bad. I think that just about does it for me and these films.

The Lighthouse (Review)

I'd heard good things of this movie about 2 men running a lighthouse back in the late 1800's. The film was shot in black and white and only has two cast members. Robert Patrick and William DaFoe.

What it ended up being was a confused jumbled mess of scenes that went no where. More artsy-fartsy that witty and deep. Such a disappointment. I remember being 30 minutes in and thinking "Do I want to even continue this?" I decided to go ahead and do it, thinking it would all make sense in the end.

An hour and 3 minutes in I had a feeling I'd made a huge mistake with the use of my time. By the time the end of the movie came around I was pissed.

Don't watch this. Though it has  a few interesting scenes in the beginning, when Robert Patrick sees a Mermaid....it's all downhill from there.

Happy Memorial Day

I wonder how many people realize this holiday (Decoration Day) started when confederate widows decided to decorate not only the confederate soldiers graves but the graves of the Northern army as well?

Either way folks, have a wonderful day!

Maleficent Mistress of Evil

Remember 6 years ago when the first movie came out and people loved it? Well for some reason Disney decided to wait close to another decade before doing a sequel....and they shouldn't have.

Visually the movie is stunning. Shame they wasted it on a story that makes no sense has no excitement and was a compete waste of time. Megan was the smart one to go to bed the moment I hit "play" Why I stayed and suffered thru this monstrosity is beyond me.

Have a good weekend folks!

The Paper (Review)

This Ron Howard movie went unnoticed by me for years until it popped up on my streaming service one day and I decided to give it a try.

Michael Keaton, Robert DuVall, Randy Quaid and Glen Close and many more make up an interesting cast of characters. The story revolves around a struggling newspaper (back in the day when they were relevant) trying to get the perfect story before a rival paper does.

Engaging the whole way and though not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination it did make for an interesting watch if you're so inclined.

Emperor's New School (Review)

Another cartoon I've been looking forward to watching is Emperor's New School! The TV series sequel to one of my favorite Disney movies!

Man, talk about missed opportunities. The show is "good" but falls short of "Great" which is what it could have been if they'd had given the series a little more thought and effort.

The story takes place after the movie where Kuzco has to go back to school and graduate before becoming Emperor. But Kuzco doesn't have his "summer" home like in the movie and the whole story arc is a little hokey. Plus, it doesn't look like Kuzco's learned his lesson from the first film.

Kuzco's favorite meal is a "meat mug"  i mug full of salted steamy cooked meat. I have to admit.... I want one. Its a running gag in the series that I enjoyed.

A good thing about the show is that almost all the actors came back for the series except for David Spade, which is weird. What else did he have to do at the time? I mean, for crying out loud even John Goodman came back!!

One really good thing about it is that they gave the series an ending! (rare cartoons usually get a chance to wrap up the overall plot) In the end, Kuzco graduates, becomes Emperor (again) gets together with his love interest for the series and learns his lesson (again) about not being so self centered.

Though better than the DVD Sequel Kronk's New Groove, it still falls short of brilliant. Glad I watched it.

The Walking Dead (Comic review)

I was finally able to finish the Walk Dead comic series and to not reveal any spoilers I'll give you my thoughts.

Meh. The last story line with the Commonwealth didn't seem as dangerous or epic as all Rick's past "enemies" In fact, it was probably the most boring and repetitive of them all. Sure that's going to happen when I series goes long enough and maybe even why they decided to end the series but it was a little underwhelming to read in the end.

Although the shocking death near the end of the series was big the comic after seemed to drag on forever and was kind of a weird way to end it on a mini-adventure that ties to nothing from the regular story arc. But oh well, Kirkman ended it the way he wanted to. Now all that's left to see what story he'll come up with next.

I'm sure AMC will be interested.

Absent Minded Professor (Review)

There's something about these old movies on Disney+ that I just love. This one in particular holds up pretty well. It's engaging and entertaining the whole way through. I remember Robin Williams remake called "Flubber" but don't remember any of it. To me, this is the only movie I need.

If you have Disney+ and are looking for something good to re-watch, look no further than this!

Day 39

Last week I finished growing my "beard" for 39 days to see what I'd look like if I made it through Survivor. It's looks a lot better in this picture then it did in real life.
Then I proceeded to shave it off.
Now I'm glad to be clean shaven once again. I won't be doing this ever again. I hated it. But at least I know what I'd look like if I made it to the end of my favorite shows!

Every Picture Tells a Story (36)

I remember this day well. These too guys were pranksters at a summer camp I used to attend. (we attended several back in the day if you haven't noticed by now) When these guys had been discovered as the culprits, I planned an ambush in the hallway to hit them with shaving cream (hence the mess on them in the pic)

After leading them into the trap I took off and later snuck back into my dorm room...only to find the two of them there. For some reason they thought it was my roommate who'd set them up and not me and they wanted revenge.

So I led them to my roommate's shoes and watched as they took shaving cream off themselves and gently laid it into his shoes.

Good times, good times...ok folks, that's all the pics I care to share for now. Have a good weekend!

Every Picture Tells a Story (35)

This woman was using my brush in my dorm room at summer camp back in 93. The mystery was, I didn't take the picture or know who she was in the first place.

This was one of those times when you were surprised by the developed film you got. I'd never seen this person before and was confused as to what had happened. I knew it was taken at the summer camp because she was wearing the camp t-shirt for that year. But for years I didn't know who she was until one of my buddies identified her as a friend of his from high school who was with his group that year at summer camp.

The story goes, he was moving in to the same dorm room as I was and being goofy the girls were playing around when one of them picked up my camera and snapped a shot.

Her name was Melodi and though I don't think I ever met her face to face, I was able to call her years later and thank her for the pic.

Hail to the King Baby!

The man I picked first to win it all did...and boy did he deserve it. He played one of the greatest games on Survivor EVER and may be the best there ever was in the game.

As for the other two, I love how Natalie was so confident in herself at first when Jeff was reading the votes, but then came the wooden look of defeat when Tony ran away with it in the end.

And did Michelle ever think she stood a chance at getting ONE vote?! This season made her look ever worse of a goat than before! And Natalie trying to defend her game play was laughable. The only votes she got were from sour grapes who'd been duped by Tony.

If Sandra's the Queen, Tony IS the King!

Every Picture Tells a Story (34)

Here I am with Darth Maul's Ray Park. He was a really cool guy and even spent time talking with me the next day after I'd gotten his autograph.

He remembered me from the day before and had me come behind the table and hang out with him for a few minutes while we talked. It was really awesome and the highlight of my trip to the San Diego Comic Con that year.

Ok, I'm done looking at that awful hair. Moving on to different pics tomorrow.

COVID-19 98% mild

Wow. So with all the new testing going on which leads to numbers increasing in cases they've been able to determine that most cases of the virus are mild and only 2% aren't.

Not as bad as we originally thought. Glad this is leading more States to reopen faster. Here's to getting back to normal sooner rather than later.

Every Picture Tells a Story (33)

Here's a pic of me the first time I met one of my favorite authors Kevin J Anderson. He even gave me a free book of his. It was a great experience. Unfortunately the last time I met him wasn't the best. He was a little insulting to some of his fans. I'm not sure he realized it but you could tell on the people's faces he was talking to, that they felt insulted by his mockery of them. Kind of embarrassing all around because I think Kevin thought he was being funny.

Oh well. We all make mistakes from time to time.

Every Picture Tells a Story (32)

Here I am with Bruce Campbell as he signs my copy of Army of Darkness. He was a fun guy to meet but was rushing everyone past his table as fast as he could for some reason.

I remember this being one of the biggest autographs for me to collect. Back then, they only cost $15 to $20 though some would sign for free if you could believe that. Now I think they charge $40 to $50 these days. A far cry from the way things used to be.

Re-open America

It's time.

Over the weekend I've received sad news that 4 small businesses (that I know of, there could be more) have had to close down completely due to the State being closed.

2 weeks ago when the decision to extend the stay-at-home was made it instantly killed those businesses.  And over the weekend I hear there may be more.

I saw a clothing store in a shopping strip defying state law and open for business. I went in to visit and asked her what was going on. She told me a hard decision had to be made about her business on whether to reopen or shut down completely. She told me several others are thinking about shutting down for good as well but she opened up today to try to keep her business alive. Though only a few employees were underneath her she felt responsible for them as well.

Crushing to hear how this has impacted small business and that so many people are losing their jobs over this. The hope of joining other states last week in re-opening were dashed by the Governor, forcing them out of business.

And while those other state economies are back on the mend, we remain in disarray. A further extension I'm told would be devastating to even more businesses. I hope that's not the case tomorrow when we hear from the Governor.

I do know other parishes in the Louisiana have already been open for a few weeks now with no new cases of COVID-19. I hope that proves to be the case going forward though it's logical cases will continue to crop up.

Here's to hoping our Governor says "no" to more Federal funding and "yes" to its residents.

Every Picture Tells a Story (31)

Here's a pic of me with the late great Robert Jordan! This was taken only a few years before he passed away and was one of his last public appearances. I was really fortunate to have this photo taken with him and a book autographed.

The only regret I have was I didn't bring more books for him to sign. Oh well. At least I have one signature to brag about.

Speaking of, I'm working my way through these now. Started around the first of the year....it's going to take me most of this year to finish the series too. These books aren't "light" reading by any stretch of the imagination.

Have a good weekend folks!

Every Picture Tells a Story (30)

Here's a good pic of what a rats next my hair looked like back then. I didn't care but do admit it doesn't look good at all in any of these pics.

Speaking of, this pic is of some kids who cosplayed as the children in "Battle Royal" Great movie if you've never seen it. I thought it was a fun costume and took a picture with them.

So kind of them to take a picture with a man with hair like that.

Delayed

Dang it! Weezer just announced their newest album (Due out next week) is now delayed indefinitely.

Sucks.

It was one of the few things I was looking forward to in a month that's been disappointing so far.

They released a new song from the album to help ease the bitter news. "Hero" is available to listen to. I suggest you do. It's not as get as their first release from the album but fun non-the-less.

(sigh)

Every Picture Tells a Story (29)

Here's a pic of me with Joey Quesada, head of Marvel comics studios. He's a real genuine nice guy. Fun to talk to and always makes time to speak with fans. I'm not the biggest Marvel fan but I can appreciate what he does all the same.

Now for me hair....back then I had quit the bank and was growing my hair out over the summer. Trust me, it doesn't get better. I'll show you what I mean tomorrow.

Every Picture Tells a Story (28)

Here's me with Rob Leifield. As kids my brothers and I would talk about if we ever met him in person we'd kick him straight in the nuts.

Imagine my surprise to see him in person and the whole time I was taking the picture I thought "Here's my chance"

No, I didn't do it....but I thought about it and that's cowardly enough for me!

Every Picture Tells a Story (27)

May the 4th be with you! I remember taking this pic with the stormtrooper, looking at him I said "Pulp Fiction" and we both turned to the camera like so. Ha! Pretty smooth...even though I look like a 70's TV star.

The News no one wants you to hear

Looks like Sweden was right after all for not having a lockdown or stay-at-home order for their country.

Their deaths are way below the average and they never shut down. Now "herd immunity" is possible by the end of the month and the rest of the world doesn't want you to know because they're the ones who'd look stupid over how they dealt with the virus.

This link tell the story.

Thank you Jeff Landry!

A BIG thank you to our Attorney General for petitioning the Governor to allow churches to operate services outside this Sunday. Though not ideal, it's a start. Here's to hoping we say "No" to fear on May 15th and end the lockdown!

Gas still dropping

Saw gas for $1.24 today.....oh man....getting closer to $1.19

If it ever gets to .99 we should declare a national holiday.

Sunday fun photo

I need to get back to posting more of these.

Every Picture Tells a Story (26)

Here's a few Star Wars folks I meet back in 2005 at Comic Con.

Lando (I think) was hung over. He didn't talk much, just nodded and mumbled something. This was also back in the day when the stars didn't charge for photos.

I'm glad I got pics with the late Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew. I kind of wish I'd chosen to get pictures instead of autographs with each of them.

Peter Mayhew wasn't nice either. He seemed bored and a little miffed to be there.

Oh and the hair. Yeah. I'll get to that next week.

Have a good weekend folks!
