Aquatica pics
The Dolphin Plunge is a water slide at Aquatica which takes you under water thru a dolphin tank where the little critters are swimming all around you. Megan LOVED this ride. The only thing they don't tell you is to keep you mouth closed when "ooh-ing" at the dolphins...because the very next second you're under water at the end of the ride.
My money being put to good use I suppose.

This mini-NFL league never ceases to amaze me! AND LOOK! Somone felt bad for Auburn and gave them #24?!
Of course that ranking will quickly disappear next week when we go to Texas A&M, BUT STILL.... impressive indeed!
Star Wars: Rebels update
Sadly it's only about the new Rebels cartoon baddie "The Inquisitor"
I get it. Clone Wars had it's "sub-baddies" so Rebels has to follow the same lame formula and give us their rendition of the newest villain.
As for fitting in with Star Wars cannon, this does! It's been a common staple for years that both the Emporor and Vader had Inquisitors that hunted down Jedi, so the addition of this new guy shouldn't surprise anyone.
Now will I watch it? That decision will have to wait until I hear more about Episode 7 and if it will keep with the rest of cannon or not.
Speaking us JJ's upcoming Tween Wars movie, the rumor mill has been rampant with reports that "big news" is coming out about Episode 7 soon. I won't be holding my breath but I will be interested to see what news gets released as we head into 2014.
Until then, I'll continue to enjoy my Star Wars...while I still can.

Disney World Fail?
So I surprised Megan with a trip to Disney World for our 5 year anniversary. I also got her tickets to Universal Studios, Sea World, Aquatica and Discovery Cove but she thought she was only going to see the Rangers play baseball that weekend. She had no idea about it!
But watch her reaction to the news and see if this constitutes as a "fail"

Top 3 TV Finales
So I discussed the Worst, may as well tell you what I think we the best?! Here goes:
3) The Shield
After 7 mind-blowing seasons it finally looks like Mackey's going to get away scott-free for his past transgressions only to end up having his family leave him and his friends either dead or rotting away in prison while he's chained to a desk job (what he hates most) for the rest of his life.
In essence, Mackey focuses so much on getting away with everything he's done that he's constructed his own personal jail in real life.
Beautiful.
2) Babylon 5
This is going to come as a shocker for many I know. With it's outdated CG and poor reputation in the sci-fi community as being the ugly step-sister or Star Trek, the show really ended up shining in the end.
So why is this ranked so high for me? It had to do with the main point of the entire series, "You can't change the future."
Since the first season most of the characters are away of their destiny. Some are destined to die at a certain time and know even how and when it'll happen. Others are destined to fulfill their dreams of power and only to lead a miserable life there after.
One character tries constantly to take steps to avoid his future, each step backwards leads to 2 steps further along the path of destiny.
The other character accepts his fate even though his friends do everything they can to avoid it. In the finale you believe fate will finally lose in the end and that all your favorite characters will be spared their doom....they're not.
Why? Because you can't change the future.
YESSSSS! Someone give me a high five!
1) Star Trek: Next Generation
I have to tip my hat to all the trekkies out there on this one. Though not the biggest fan of the genre I admit their season finale #1 on my list.
Picard is trapped in a paradox between the past, present and future. He later discovers that the infamous Q is behind it all and after all these seasons has decided to finally pass his judgement on humanity. Neatly tying the very first episode together in one brilliant stroke!
But it didn't stop there, they brought back the original deck crew from season one and gave you a scary glimpse at what possible future may happen to our heroes.
Finally Picard is able to solve Q's paradox and prove humanity's worth. The quintessential scene of the whole show happens at the end when Picard sits at the officers regular card game and says "I should have done this a long time ago" He then begins to deal out cards while explaining the rules of the game.
Fantastic.

Top 3 Worst TV show finales
After talking about Dexter I got to thinking just what were the worst TV Show Finales I've ever seen? Here's what I came up with:
3) X-Files
If it's been too long since you've seen this one, so I'll fill you in. Mulder comes back for a trial involving some characters from past seasons and we discover Chris Carter ran out of ideas for the show after it's 4th season.
It was terrible. Nothing gets revealed, the "answer" is not "out there" after all. Several years later we had a movie that gave us nothing to do with the story plot of the show. Proving that even Chris Carter never had an idea of where to take it.
Rumor has it they're bringing every back for another movie which is sure to waste more of our time as well.
2) BattleStar Galactica
When this first came out I didn't hear one single person complain about the show. Everyone loved this instant hit. But I wonder how many would've bothered watching it if they'd have known how it would all end? With a worn-out story line which lost it's way in the 3rd season and didn't know what to do once it all came to a close. The finale is awful to say the least and by this time you've generally lost respect for all the main characters involved.
If this show would've ended in season 2 it would be on my list of best TV show ever. Sadly it went on for 2 more seasons, dragging through a river of muck then dropping us into a septic tank of a sea for the finale.
Big letdown.

This is the one I love to hate! Lost is by far the worst TV show finale in history. We were pulled in by it's intriguing mystery and plot twist and from the very first season every said "They're already dead and this is Purgatory!"
But the writers vehemently denied it over and over. And told us it was part of something much bigger and that we'd just have to wait and see.
Over the next few seasons the mysteries kept piling up and our curiosity made us believe they were right. Excitement was in the air for the last season to provide answers to millions of unanswered questions we had. But when the finale came about, what did it turn out to be? Purgatory. Exactly as we called it in the first season.
It's as if the writers painted themselves into such a corner that they didn't even know what to do with the story so they decided to go with what the kept denying this whole time! Thus revealing the true prisoners of this purgatory was the fans.
That's my Top 3. What's yours?

ESPNo thank you
It's been a few weeks that I've watched SportsCenter on ESPN lately and that's big for me. Growing up, SportsCenter is what I woke up and ate breakfast to every morning. It started my day!
Over the years though I've seen a sad emphasis on the NFL though. It's getting harder every day to determine if I have it on ESPN or the NFL Network.
Don't get me wrong, on Monday's I understand why it's all about the NFL. All the games finished the day before and ESPN recaps each one. But on Tuesday the analyze them again AND breakdown the game on Monday Night Football. And again on Wednesday...and Thursday and Friday are all about predictions and updates for Sunday's upcoming games.
What about fall baseball? On the average it's get's less than 60% coverage on their program. Even though they're playing more more baseball tan anything else right now.
So for the first time in years, I've decided to stop watching SportsCenter. This is football country I won't argue with that but it seems that's the ONLY sport ESPN likes to comment on anymore and it's getting very tiresome.
So I've switch to Fox Sports One which is way more balance and doesn't talk about the same topic for 20 minutes at a time. I also love MLB network because it's all about baseball and is the only thing I care about right now. (besides College Football of course)
Ok, just wanted to throw that out there to ya!

The Dexter Challenge
To sum things up: It could have been better.
I don't think it was bad and I certainly don't think it was the best ending to have but here are my thoughts on the things they did wrong and the solutions for the problems it had. (ATTENTION: SPOILERS FORTHCOMING!!!)
Things they did wrong:
1) Killing Deb off they way they did.
I don't think it was a bad idea at all letting Deb die in the series, I just wish they'd have done it sooner. By trying to cram everything into the last episode, Dexter fell short by not allowing the audience time to "feel" Deb's death in the series.
It should have happened half way (or three quarters) into the series. That way you have an invested interest in seeing the main villain get his due. The best scene in the finale was when Dexter kills him with a pen, but it would've been a lot sweeter if we'd have entered the scene with a simmering hatred for the character instead of a nonchalant way in which he received him.
Think about the series 24. How many of you stood up and cheered when Jack finally killed Nina after 3 seasons? I know my dad played it back on the DVR at LEAST 17 times, because he loved the "payoff" so much. We all did. In Dexter the villain kills off Dr Vogal and the kid earlier in the season but they were just guest stars. We had no invested interest in them at all.
Killing Deb off, either immediately or slowly over a few episodes would have been fine.
2) Hannah's fate
Another botched concept that was crammed into the last episode was Hannah's escape from the bounty hunter and the Feds. Another story they could have taken time in telling over the last few episodes but didn't.
We should have been on an emotional roller coaster wondering from one week to the next wether she was going to escape or not. Instead, we received a whole half season of her waiting for the right time to leave. How awesome would it have been if in one episode we see her captured by the bounty hunter and then have to wait a week to see if she can get away!? Another wasted opportunity by the writers.
3) Supporting character's pointless side stories.
This season lacked in short story arcs for the supporting cast. None of the had any relevancy other than to fill up the time of an episode. Think about it.
Angel has no goal in this season other than to run the department. He's a great character with a lot of depth and he seemed wasted in this season.
And what was the point of Masuka's story line with his daughter? I was really expecting a twist to come out of that but I guess the writers needed something for him to do so they threw Masuka a story line that serves us no point.
Quinn's story on the other hand was all over the place. It started off with him trying to commit to a stronger relationship with Angel's sister, only to switch midway thru the season about him trying to be a better cop and studying for the Detective's exam. This story was quickly dropped to rush in a last minute flame for Deb again so that in the end I guess he could be broken up about her "death"
Quinn, Angel and Masuka have all had way better side stories before. Defining their characters better and making them more meaningful to the overall plot. Although this season it's safe to say the writers had nothing for them to do so they suffered from poor story telling this season.
4) Dexter's demise.
Reading an article from the director and producers of the show I get why it ended the way it did. Dexter's all alone. He doesn't kill anymore and he doesn't have friends. He even doesn't have his thoughts with him, which was one of my favorite points about the ending. It's the ONLY time we don't hear a voice over from Dexter in the entire series! That part was well done. And the others I get too.
So Dexter destroys everyone he's with. True. It's been established in all of the past seasons. Everyone who gets close to Dex, eventually dies. So to save Hannah and Harrison that fate Dexter becomes wolverine from X-Men Origns. Grows a beard and works as a logger in Canada. Well done. Point proven.
In the article they said killing Dexter was never an option, nor was giving him a happy ending because when it's all said and done, Dexter's a serial killer who doesn't deserve happiness nor did they want to let him off easy with death. So the perfect fate for our "anti-hero" was to leave him all alone, miserable and cut off from everything he loves.
I get that. I understand it even. But I don't like it.
This whole series is about Dexter becoming more human and feeling emotion like everyone else. The series has done a great job in slowly turning him around to this point. The producers goal of having you forget Dexter's a serial killer too (which killing is wrong and yada yada yada) then bravo! You did it!
But as a "reward" for Dexter finally understanding what it means to be human you have him agonizing in guilt for the rest of his life?! What?
This is too cruel a fate. Why not reward him? I'd have been happy if he would've lived happily ever after with Hannah and Harrison in Brazil then to be cut off from everyone, miserable and depressed for the rest of his life. It just isn't the kind of payoff you give to him.
How it should have ended
How would I have ended it? I'd have the apparition of Harry turn out to be Dexter's actual "dark passenger" and send Dexter into an internal conflict with him when he finally discovers this. Dexter would end up stabbing himself and "killing" the dark passenger which was within him this whole time. He would die, but with the peace of mind that everything in life is as he wants it to be. Hannah and Harrison would be taken care of and Deb would live happily with Quinn. Both girls would mourn yet understand the reason of Dexter's death and we'd be talking about for the next few months.
Boom baby! THAT'S how you end a series!

The LAST comic strip
Back in 2005 I started this blog solely for one thing, to make comic strips.
Over the years I've enjoyed drawing them but now that I'm working on my 1000th and final comic book the time has finally come to say goodbye to the strips.
It's been a delight to write these but it's time the Blog moved on to other things. Tomorrow will begin the final comic strip I'll post on the blog. I think you're going to love it since I'm bringing back my most famous characters to date for one final send-off!
It's been a great 8 years bringing them to you and I look forward to bigger in better things in the times to come.

The Making of Disney World's Famous Kitchen Sink Ice Cream Sundae

Dark City review
Wow! I can't believe how good this movie is! How had I forgotten all about it?! Let's go over the story synopsis:
Years ago aliens came to our planet (ie: The "Strangers" as shown above) They can alter reality with their minds, like changing the shape and structure of a city. This dying race spent years of looking for a way to preserve their lives until they found earth.
Discovering humans have souls which that live forever, the Strangers seek out knowledge on how to obtain one themselves. To do that, they place humans within a city, (controlled by the "Strangers") and document their behavior by altering human memories.
For instance, one night a human could be Mayor of the city and the next night, a janitor. The aliens then inject themselves with those memories to learn from them.
With the aid of a traitorous human doctor they conduct experiments using a syringe to the forehead which creates new memories into the subject. And though the doctor hates the Strangers he figures it's the only way to preserve his life among the others.
I know this sounds deep but stay with me.
So one human wakes up before he can be "re-imaged" and discovers he has an uncanny physic ability to do things. (much like the aliens) The story focuses on our "hero" as he tries to discover, who he is, what's happening to him, when this all began, where the Strangers came from, why's the city always dark and how can he escape!?
Though the movie suffers from early CGI effects (it came out in 98) you can easily overlook it thanks to it's brilliant story!
Speculation on a few websites is that this movie prompted the idea for The Matrix which came out the following year. (remember Dark City originally had a 1997 release date) Being the same studio who produced it I'm inclined to believe this was the case. They knew they were on to something and if they had spent more money on Dark City I think it would have been huge!
Plus with the AMAZING twist at the end it's well worth you while to rent or watch. $8 for the Blu-ray or $6 on DVD at Amazon, make it an affordable purchase if you can't find it for free.
But trust me, watch it. It's good!

Last week we held our Annual Zombiegeddon!!! game day. With me winning the 1st game and Gray Hall winning the 2nd it was another epic year!!
Zombiegeddon!!! 2014 is currently penciled in to happen around March or April of next year and will have Zombies!!! 12 added on to it!

The importance of West End Games
1) Rodian, Twi'lek and Ithorian...they invented those names. When West End Games got permission to do Star Wars role playing books they also received the unique honor or creating a lot of the back story of the universe. Most of it, George Lucas considers cannon to his movies as well!
Take Greedo, the bounty hunter who cornered Han Solo in the Cantina in Star Wars. Lucas was calling his race "Greedo's" off stage while the rest of the cast referred to him as the "martian" West End Games (with Lucas' strict observation) got to name a lot of the alien races that Lucas later agreed to name them by.
In the past I told you Zahn received tons of help from the role-playing books when writing Heir to the Empire and not only that but the Clone Wars series has even adopted story lines from these books. It's become the foundation of Star Wars.
The Jedi Code was invented during this era, as was several other vehicle names and abilities. I'm proud to have the whole collection on my book shelves and in the future may even get the ones from Wizards of the Coast. Though I'm not sure if they had any impact on the genre at all.
Either way. I thought this was cool knowledge and wanted to pass it along. Have a great day everybody!

Auburn 2013 predictions
Nick Marshall DIDN'T play like Cam Newton, as everyone was predicting. Instead he plays like Jason Campbell in his Sophomore and Junior year. No control. I'm worried their too.
Though I think the next few weeks will deliver wins for the season (Ark St and Miss St) I have a feeling we're going to get a HUGE wake up call when we head down to Death Valley to play the LSU Tigers.
- Oh well, at least I'll get to enjoy the first few weeks of football at least...and IT'S WITHOUT CHIZIC!!!
