Trouble in paradise?
Well it hasn't even been a week since the Comic Con let out and already rumors are flying around that JJ's bailing on Star Wars.
It all started when at a Star Trek panel it was alluded that JJ would be returning to finish the series. In fact I heard rumors from many folks telling me that JJ WAS directing Star Trek 3 after all. But ever since that rumor got out Disney has vehemently denied it.
I'm curious to figure out the truth on this because it isn't the first time I've heard such rumors.
A few months ago there was a rumor (which ended up being true) that Lucas Film wanted to do the movie over in Europe, something JJ was against. But the studio ended up getting their way, which has led to other rumors as well...JJ's not happy.
This makes sense to me because for Star Trek they handed JJ the reigns of the dying series that was losing it's luster with audiences. Star Wars is a completely different beast. The books, video games and TV show have kept this firmly in the minds of the populous. If JJ was thinking about coming in with "god-like" abilities to do whatever he wanted with the series, he's sadly mistaken.
It must be frustrating being the ruler of one genre to becoming the whipping boy of another. I'm sure JJ isn't happy about that.
Will he continue on as director of Star Wars? Oh yes. JJ's ego won't allow him to bow down from a huge project as this. My only hesitation is this, JJ's a pathological liar. When people figure out his plans he denies them completely until the truth unfolds we were right all along.
So he's saying he's not leaving Star Wars and that the rumors are false and THAT has me in doubt right there.
Time will tell if he books or not, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I never believed the rumors to be true right off the bat. When something this HUGE happens those things get locked down in contracts so fast your head will spin, so even if he were unhappy, too bad, he's still contractually obligated to directing Episode 7. The rumor mill, especially online, are simply looking for traffic to their websites on the eve of Star Wars Celebration, using the hype around what*might* be announced by "scooping" things ahead of the convention. Like the current rumor that Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling were up for roles, anything for site visits.
Agreed. That could be it. Remember when the Backstreet Boys were rumored to be in Episode 1?
