Fanboy Expo pics (3)

One reason I love the Fanboy Expo is for its unique dealers that you won't find at other cons. Just take this guy for instance. He makes and sells I Dream of Jeanie bottles....which Megan bought and had signed by Barbara Eden.

I have to admit....it was pretty cool.
Saw this unique Fax and the Hound board game. Didn't get it, but I was still surprised it even existed. I mean... how do you make a board game out of that movie?!
 M.A.S.K. toys....sigh.... I love these things!
Star Wars toys in the old Darth Vader holder. (Like the 3PO one I showed a few weeks ago)
And finally, the Hall of Justice. I had this toy as a kid and played with it all the time. The Hall of Justice was probably the biggest play set we had as kids and I loved every minute of it. Just seeing that box sends me back to Xmas in my younger years.

However, seeing the price tag for it, quickly brought me back into the present.

Last picture round-up coming tomorrow!

Fanboy Expo pics (2)

So there were a ton of replica cars at the show this year. Check it out!

Megan's obvious favorite, the General Lee was there and looking good!
They even had Rosco's police car, owned by this nice couple who live in an old general store in a small Tennessee town. Awesome people to meet. Megan and I really enjoyed talking to them. The guy also had a replica car from Smokey and the Bandit but didn't bring it to the show.
Since the movie's out this summer you knew someone was going to resurrect the baby with this baby! Gotta admit, it looked good all lit up!
The Jurassic Park car was there last year but that didn't stop Megan from getting excited over seeing it again.
And finally the Scooby Doo van, which even though I wasn't a fan of the cartoon growing up, half to admit that it was pretty cool.

K, that's all for today. Be back tomorrow with more!

Fanboy Expo pics (1)

A few weeks ago, Megan and I were in Knoxville, TN at the Fanboy Expo! Here's a few pics from our trip!

Before the Expo, you KNOW we had to stop at a few antique stores along the way to see what they had. Like this Boob Tube race....racing towards the boob....tube...
Or this 4 foot Grinch that I really badly wanted but couldn't justify spending $400 for.
Remember the McDonalds Halloween buckets?! Who'd have thought they'd bring back such wonderful memories!
My Mom gave us orange juice from the very same glasses back in the day.
Smurfs!!

Ok, more photos from our trip coming tomorrow.

Top 5 soups

I know this is not really a summer topic. I meant to do this earlier in the year but forgot. Found my list last week and thought "Meh, why not!?"

So here we go!!

5) Broccoli Cheese

If you would have asked me back in the 90's what my favorite soup was, you would have heard me say this one. I still love it today but it has slipped a few pegs in the ranking since then. Doesn't mean I love it any less than I did as a kid. Always good!

4) Mushroom

Dang! I wish I could say this was my #1. I LOVE me some mushroom soup! I could eat this stuff all day! I don't know when my love for mushrooms came around but I believe I loved them even as a kid.

Sad thing is, this doesn't get mad enough around my house or Mom's or it'd be higher on the list!

3) French Onion

A staple in most restaurants. And it's almost always my choice when I see it. To the cooked cheese on top to the sweet onion goodness on the bottom, this is a great soup everyone should love!

2) Egg Drop

This may not be on everyone's list but me and this soup go WAY back! I love me some Chinese food and egg drop soup is a MUST whenever I visit. I can't explain why I love it so much but I do. It almost got #1 on the list, before I recalled the true king of soups.

1) Gumbo

Whether seafood, chicken, sausage or heck ANYTHING, I'm all about some gumbo! Mom never makes it and neither does Megan so sadly the only times I get to have it is when we go out and you don't get seconds on the lovin' there!

If this is all I had to live on for a year, I'd be a happy man. No doubt about it!

Ok folks, that's my Top 5....what's yours?

Top 5 Candy bars

I think it's time to talk about my favorite candy bars!

5) Zero

I ate these like crazy in college. I sold them at a store in the mall back in my college days, where only one girl (a mall employee) would come in every day and get one. I told her "You know, you're the only one who ever buys these. I think we order them just for you."

And she replied "That's because they're the best, you should try one."

Later that evening I did...and there were 2 people buying them from that store from then on!

I can't explain why I love this candy bar. It defies all odds in my taste buds because white chocolate (which is the coating) is something I LOATHE!!! But when it's covering a Zero candy bar, it couldn't get any better!

4) Dark Chocolate bars

I was going to choose a particlur brand for this post until I realized... I love them all. I NEVER say no to dark chocolate! (with the exception of a Zero) I try to avoid white or milk chocolate whenever dark is an option.

I remember trying it for the first time as a kid and thinking "This is what REAL chocolate tastes like!"

And I haven't gone back since!

3) 100 Grand

When making this list I'd forgotten about this candy bar (sorry Snickers) and it came in at #3! What a great candy bar! I could seriously eat an entire bag of the snack size ones if given the chance. They're just THAT good!

Whenever I see a 100 Grand at someone's house, I never feel guilty helping myself...even if it's the last one.

2) Twix

It had to make the list. I could eat these for days at a time and never tire of them. Forget the ones filled with peanut butter (blech!) I'm just fine with the original! I don't even know why they advertise for these candy bars anyway. Who WOULDN'T want a Twix?! C'mon!!

1) Heath

I wanted to give this crown to Twix, I really did. But Heath bar has my heart. In ice cream, shakes or just on it's own, it's the BEST candy bar in town! Nothing beats that sweet toffee crunch and satisfying after taste. This is my favorite one of all time and I'm sticking to it!

That's my Top 5....what's yours?

More toys from the past!

Found some more toys from the past and wanted to see if any of you remember these as well!

Fisher Price Drum and musical instrument set.

Oh the ruckus we caused as kids with this bad boy in our hands. My favorite memory was waking up early in the morning and playing this to the tune of "The Monkees" TV theme song. (which was not in tune in the slightest) and waking the ENTIRE house up.

Ah...good times....and hard spankings....
 Nerf Golf.

I'd forgotten about this one for so long, that when I saw it recently at a convention I nearly fell out of my chair! I remember playing with this so much as a kid, I can't believe I've forgotten about it after all this time!
Gilligan's Floating Island

This was a bath tub toy that would float. We didn't own it as kids but I know I've played with it before and I'm guessing it was at a friends house. How much fun would this have been in the bath tub? I'm halfway tempted to track one down on Ebay and see for myself!

That's all for today folks! C-ya later!

Lonesome Dove Review

Years ago my roommate made me sit down and watch this entire TV Mini-series with him. I fussed the whole time leading up to it that I didn't want to watch something that sounded like a soap opera and was a western. (I generally hate Westerns) But he insisted and we went to Blockbuster and rented it. (Yeah, it was THAT long ago)

I loved it. I couldn't believe how much I did either. Now, 20 years later, while passing by the DVD "garbage" bin at Walmart I saw it for $5 and picked it up.

I watched it a few weeks ago....still good. No, GREAT even!

I love this movie so much, I'm halfway interested in reading the books they're based on! So if you're looking for a movie night (or 4, since it's a 4 part series) Go down to your Walmart and pull it from the bin too.

You won't regret it.

Happy 4th of July!

Please enjoy Fireworks for me as I go to work today. Yep...no joke.

Have a good one folks!

Christmas in July

I don't know if you celebrate the holiday by watching an Xmas movie in July. I do every once in a while and this time it was Krampus. (I guess I saw this in June)

I remember seeing this was out in theaters while I was in Phoenix and saying to myself "If I ever get board, that's what I'm going to watch!" I never got board though and skipped it in theaters altogether.

Man was I wrong for doing that!

From the acting, to the script, the costumes and the cinematic shots, I was floored by how good a movie this is. It jokes on itself in the same way the movie "Gremlins" did and thinking about it, it's a very similar style movie. But better.

This film has it all and is definitely worth your time if you choose to spend the $1.50 at Redbox for it.

And if you decide to by it on DVD. Let me borrow it sometime. I've got to see the deleted scenes and alternate ending!

Have a good weekend folks!

July Movie review

Time to kick off our July Movie preview. There's a lot coming out, but will I see any of them? Find out below...

 Ghostbusters

Definite no. Because I hate women....oh and the fact that it looks like t-total GARBAGE!
 The BFG

Spielberg put together a good trailer for this one, but I'm not interested in it at all. That and the initials BFG make me wonder if it stands for Big F***** Guy.

You were thinking the same thing too, I know it.
 Jason Bourne

I LOVED the Bourne movies when they came out! Oh course I also loved Ace of Base music too back then. I care for neither now.
 Lights Out

Have to admit, I'm curious about this one. After watching the student film it was based off of, I'm interested to see how this one turns out. But since Megan hates most horror movies, I'll sadly have to wait until DVD for it.
 The Purge: Election Year

I have no idea why I like these movies. I've never seen a one in theaters and this will be added to the list of rentals come the end of the year.
 The Secret Life of Pets

Megan's most anticipated film of the year. (I'm not joking) So I'll have to see it either way. But I hope it's not one of those movies with a good trailer but awful storyline! Guess I'll find out in the next few weeks!
Star Trek Beyond

Since the Director has stated, he's "politely" ignoring the events of the last AWFUL movie, I guess I can give this one a shot. Looks too much like a yawner, but I'll let it take my money one final time before giving up on the movie franchise as a whole.

Tarzan

A vomit a little, every time I see the trailer. I vomit more just talking about it. This isn't going to be only garbage my friends, but hot steaming, filth-ridden, corpse-rotting, maggot growing garbage at that!

Not. Interested.

What about you? Agree? Disagree? Did I get anything wrong? Let me know in the comments!

Hypocrites (2)

We hear all the time in the news how we should not judge every Muslim as a terrorist. Or for that matter, anyone of Arabic decent. I agree.

I have Arabic neighbors and I'm not frightened by them at all. In fact, being my neighbors I wish I knew them better. But I don't think they speak English, since I've tried saying "Hello" a few times and have only gotten a wave and smile in return.

But isn't it hypocritical how they judge the confederate flag? What's a part of our history and heritage in the south has been blown up into some awful thing, that anyone considered flying one is considered a "racist"

That's not what this flag stands for. Has it been used that way? Yes. But so has the Muslim religion and I don't see anyone talking about that.

How hypocritical are these people who walk around telling us not to "judge a book by it's cover" but automatically crucify anyone who dares wave this flag.

I pray America wakes up from their hypocrisy and learns to accept the flag for what it truly stands for.

Hypocrites (1)

With the recent shootings in Orlando, we're constantly told how much human lives matter. We have people debating how to stop these acts of violence. We hold candle processions, moments of silence and stars have given countless tributes to the violence that took place.

But what about abortion? You know, the thing that keeps killing millions of unborn children a year? Where's the cry to save their lives? Why do we think of ourselves as so "sophisticated"  when we destroy our own?

Oh, it the "mothers" right? Ok, then why aren't we saying the same thing for the shooter in Orlando? He can't take the heartbeats out of 49 people, but woman who don't won't their own children and take the lives of theirs with no repercussion?!

What a hypocritical society we live in these days.

More tomorrow.

Election Time 2016

As the election starts to heat up, it looks like America isn't happy with the two candidates that made it through.

On the Democratic side you have Hilary Clinton, who no one trusts and is being actively investigated by the FBI in a serious violation of US security. It's gotten so bad, that the guy who helped her with the emails has already taken an immunity deal on the matter in exchange for his testimony. Not a good thing.

On the other side you have Donald Trump, a candidate that his own party can't endorse. So divided are they on the matter that even though he's secured the nomination by the people, that they want to change their candidate REGARDLESS how the millions of Republicans voted this primary season.

I have to admit. Looking at both parties, this is hilarious. And though I've never voted for either party in the presidential election, I hope 2 things happen this November.

1) Hilary Clinton gets elected and the next morning is convicted by the FBI for her crimes.

OR

2) Donald Trump gets elected and leaves half of America stunned and outraged for the next 4 years. Chaos rules.

Folks on both sides have been floating the idea of a 3rd party candidate. Something I've always believed in for years. I always vote for the guy who represents my beliefs on the issues and it's NEVER been a dim-witted Democrat or rotten Republican EVER.

Some people look to Gary Johnson as a solution. He seems like a nice guy but in reality, he's not a good fit for the office either in my opinion.

"Ok then Matt, who is?" you ask? The answer is I don't know yet because all of the candidates have yet to announce yet. But once one does that fits my beliefs. They'll get my vote. Until that time, America needs to decide whether they'll follow a 2 party system or break away from the flock, be bold and vote for whoever they think is best to run the country.

....though if Trump ends up winning, I'll be laughing for weeks thereafter, I promise.

Toys That Time Forgot (5)

 Super Power vehicles.
Justice League vehicle. We had this as a kid.
As well as Lex Luthor's vehicle too.
Also had the Batmobile. Loved it as a kid. The coolest version of it too in my opinion!
So that's it folks! If you're ever in the area, I would recommend you take the time to check it out. The prices are a little much but I heard the owner say to a serious buyer, that if he was going to spend money he would give him a deal. And from the sound of it, he did.

The owner sounds super nice, though I didn't get the time to talk to him myself he seemed really good with the customers. Online, some of the reviews talk about how the employees follow you around the store but I never experienced that. Everyone was super nice and I just felt bad that they didn't have a good enough board game section as I'd hoped.

Still, I'm glad I got a chance to visit it.

Have a good weekend folks!

Toys That Time Forgot (4)

More than meets the eye at this store!
Again, their collection of Star Wars toys is beyond belief!
And action figure, playset of vehicle you can think of, they had.
THE most desired playset from my childhood that I never received. We built our own as kids but that still didn't stop me from dreaming about it. Fun fact, Kenner would go back and use the same exact mold for it's Robin Hood Prince of Thieves toy line as Robin Hood's Merrymen hideout!
 Original Han Solo blaster.
Smurfs figures! Funny thing is, they still sell these at toy stores but the older ones are collectables.
 Original stormtrooper blaster.
Huge G.I Joe playset.

K, last round of pics from this place coming tomorrow!!
