A look back at the 2010 Christophers
So it's been over a week now and I've forgotten to give my post of what all went down at the Christophers!
No I didn't get an award. That's just me accepting it for someone who couldn't be there.
I gotta admit it was a fun time and I really enjoyed it.
Here's Megan doing her Thriller dance which once again got a huge roar of applause. We even got to present an award together but unfortunantly I don't have any photos of that.
As for what was said, well Megan and I did a P90X tribute to start things off, then I delivered a little "tongue and cheek" talk about how CJ was purposely left off the ballet this year when he played 3 different characters in one show!!

I got to drop the infamous word "Samoflange" onstage which only 2 people in the crowd got (though half of the crowd laughed anyway, not getting it) and no one here on the blog would know what that means. (inside joke)
But overall it was a wonderful night which went by fast but was very entertaining the whole time there.

A night at the Christopher's!
Ok, so it's not the Tony's but it's as close as you get here in Monroe, La. The Christopher's are tomorrow night at the Strauss theatre and even though I'm not nominated for a single thing Megan and I have been asked to present an award. I was even asked to accept an award in the event Troy Wold wins. (which he will) So it's going to be a fun night for all!
My only question this year is about the ballot. Rumor has reached my royal ear that "Best Young Troupe Show" is on the main stage ballot. Why? Most members of Main Stage don't even have memberships to Young Troupe so I'm confused as to why such a question would appear on the ballot?
The other one is the "Newcomer" award. I think it's a great idea but why wasn't that around when I was doing theatre for the first time?? Oh well, good luck to all the nominees and I'll see you tomorrow on the red carpet!
Have a great weekend folks!

Why CD's?
So after 4 short years my CD's are beginning to skip or not play at all. Why did we get rid of the cassette again? I can't remember? Everyone one of my tapes still play fine. Those things were built to last.
Sure it's not as convenient as skipping to the next song I like or rewinding back to a favorite song but you can't tell me these things were built to last!
Did I take care of them you may ask? Why yes I did. But somehow they always manage to scratch no matter how much you take care of them. I just wish they'd make a more reliable way for traveling music in the car.
Sure the iPod may be great but only if you have a car built within the last 3 years can you use it for the car. I don't know, just a little "old man syndrome" in me today I guess.

Have you seen these toys? (Part 7)
M.A.S.K. toys. Simply incredible. Maybe the finest toys ever made. They never got old! A few years ago I bid on Ebay for the complete collection of these suckers and even placed a $1000 bid on them before I realized what I was doing! This and MUSCLES are perhaps the two toy lines I'd like to have the whole set of!
They don't make'em like they used to do they folks?

Have you seen these toys? (Part 6)
Super Powers. These guys were TOTALLY cool and one of my favorite toys as a child. I could never stop playing with these as a kid. And the vehicles had it going on too!
Why Superman would need a ship was beyond me. I even thought that when I was younger too. It made no sense until the said on the box that Superman isn't weakened by Krptonite when inside his ship. (because Luthor's had kryptonite) So... ok, makes sense... I guess.
The batmobile was still the coolest ride ever. Someday when I'm rich I'm making a custom ride to look just like this!
Here's Lex Luthor's ride that had kryponite with it along with some pincers that could grab superheros and take them away!
Looks dorky, but just a generic space ship they came up with. Anyone could fly it. We had this toy too.
But the mecca.... was the Hall of Justice. (no door)
Having this bad boy was like being the small dictator of your own island.
It had a few compartments and gizmos to play around with but when it came to playsets... this was the king!
Ok that's all I have for ya! C-ya tomorrow!

Have you seen these toys? (Part 5)
Time to hit you with the hard stuff now! Big 80's hit the Thundercats had several cool toys to choose from. But why did Liono have that cannon attachment for his arm? He never had one in the cartoon??
Silerhawks. Totally awesome and worth my time. Equally as popular as Thundercats back in the day but I guess they were able to hold up in the long run.
Each figure came with a hawk for their arms except for the cowboy listed below. He came with an electric guitar..... weird.
Starcom!!!! Another toy Bray came home with. This is what really got Jeremy and I searching!
The toys were small enough for the 2 inch figure to put inside. The home base was awesome though Jeremy found it lame.
The figures had magnets at the bottom of their feet and could stick to the magnetic platforms and places on the ships and other areas.
Without a cartoon to market them the series was doomed from the get go. But it had a nice run and grabbed a few fans along the way. Hopefully we weren't the only ones!
Tomorrow I'll introduce the best toy lines I ever played with!!

Have you seen these toys? (Part 4)
We never had one but I always wanted "The Claw" (I also remember it being called "The Animal") Nothing could stop it's open maw as it climbed over gravel and made each one of us think we had the same topography in our own backyard!
Tron. Tron Legacy comes up soon in theaters but will the toys look better than these? Let's hope so.
I remember playing with these guys and whenever held to a light you could see right through them. They weren't even glow in the dark, pretty pathetic right?
Robo Force. As kids we had the last 3 on this row and we played the heck outta these bad boys! Their bottoms were made of a plastic rubber but they weren't suction cups like they look like in the picture. Their arms wen up and down and could stretch out a little, but that was it as far as moves went.

How in the world someone got us to think these toys were cool is amazing. They do absolutely nothing and yet we couldn't live without them as a kid!
Muscles. Oh yes, this is something I STILL wouldn't mind having with me today. These one piece plastic fellows were amazing!! The made plenty of them too in different colors as well. Still a hot collectible on the internet it would cost a couple hundred dollars to have a complete set... it'd be worth every penny!!
C-ya tomorrow with more!

Have you seen these toys? (Part 3)
Kicking off our Friday edition of "Have you seen these toys?" is GUTS. Little plastic non-bendable combat guys who were a hoot to play with!
Lazer Tag anyone? If you didn't play this game as a kid you were missing out. I remember my grandmother had a basement where we would play for HOURS! I think we ran the batteries out twice in one week! To be honest, I'd play this again if the original were still around!
Penny Racers. Put a penny in the back and send them on their way! We used to play with these a lot as a kid.
Ring Raiders. You know it!! These little jewels went with us whenever mom took us shopping with here. I remember giving the finger to everyone as I soared through department with an ace pilot on my index!
Have a great weekend folks! I have a few more toys to talk about next week!!

Have you seen these toys? (Part 2)
Mega Force. While digging through some of our old toys in the attic I found these.
Jeremy was the one who was able to track down the official name. They weren't part of the Micro Machine world. Different retailer.
They were tiny aircraft and tank units, some smaller ones here could fit in bigger ones like the one below.
This tank fit in the palm of your hand and with the push of a button, opened up to reveal a combat base that had several little tanks hidden inside.
Same with this aircraft. It fit these hover craft inside it. They were really cool toys. Someone had a great idea when they came up with these!

Have you seen these toys? (Part 1)
Last week my brother Bray got back in from a competition in Birmingham. While up, he visited our Grandmother and found some of our old toys we had left there years ago. He brought some of them back to Jeremy and I.
Since then we have embarked on a journey to discover recall all of our toys of the past. There have been many "AH-HA" moments and I wanted to share some of them with you. Some of the following toys you may have had as a child, some maybe not. But it should be fun to see how many memories I can trigger from you by talking about them.
Of course the first one listed above was Smurfs. You all had some I'm sure. I believe they still make them to this day! I walked into a store last year that had them for sale in those divided plastic bins that I remember as a child. Amazing!
Battle Beast. Not really one I played with as a kid but I do know my younger brothers did.
Captain Power. Remember this guy? Super cheesy but advertised to make you think he could do anything. If I remember right there was a game you could play using his "Power Station" and watching his show on TV. I'm sketchy on the details but even then I thought he was corny.
Back when Chuck Norris was only 40 something, he had his own cartoon and toy line. Not really sure if we had any of these either I just remember the kids on our street had some.
I'll be back tomorrow with more!
