The Fall of the Governor (Review)

Continuing my journey through the Walking Dead books I'd like to give my review today about the 2 part series that deals with the Governor's demise. Readers of the comic will LOVE this series because it serves of the perfect companion to the story. Most of the story is from the Governor's point of view which is great. Like looking at deleted scenes from the comic, the novels take you in a different direction and show Woodbury as the "good" guys, or what they were thinking.

There a lot of crossover moments from the comics and the book that's done well and throw away characters from the comic books are really highlighted in the novel.
The other main character is Lily. Know in the comic as the girl who shot Lori. She's unutterably the most miserable selfish person in the book. Falling in love with another guy (after the previous novel's love interest died) but after her knew man (Austin) expressed feelings for her, she pushed him to the curb with the same excuse she gave the last guy....not interested at this time.

Before I get into spoilers, I highly recommend the series for fans of the comic. I think the writer does an amazing job and the books keep you engaged the entire time!

SPOILERS

When Lily finds out she's pregnant with Austin's kid, the character makes a complete 180 and professes her love for Austin. She also goes from hating the Governor to respecting and willingly serving him now. All of this ties into her character from the last novel, showing how she uses men as protection for herself.

Austin is now there for her because she needs him to help raise her child and the Governor is now needed because he can keep her child safe. But when circumstances change, she's turns on a dime and kills the Governor (as portrayed in the comic) Though the comic gives us some of the reason, the real underlying reason is, she doesn't have anyone left for the Governor to protect.

I'm not sure if this is how the author imagined Lily to be portrayed but it's the only thing that makes sense story wise and I like it. Trying to get readers to care about Lily is a hard job, seeing how she reacts to everything around her and flips allegiances without a moments notice.

As for the following books...I'll review them next!
