There was a time when comics were unintentionally funny. Whether it be with words, phrases or just in pictures and zeitgeist.

This week I'll be giving you examples of each with my own personally commentary for each pic.

 Hmmm, ok Batman I'm curious. What DID you do to Robin?!

 Oooookay. What comic is this from and how does it end, is all I have to say.

 Hey now Boy Wonder! I don't think that's what the bats meant by that statement.

 Well, he is evil so I'll give Doom a pass on that one.

 YES! And this was a Wonder Woman comic! I wonder how WW would respond to that comment today?

 Superman: "Um, gee... look at the time. Gotta fly Lois!"

April Movie Preview

Alright, let's go ahead and get this garbage over with.

 I know he's dead but it's still no reason to see it in theaters. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to Redbox, I'm on it. But I can wait till then.

Sadly, half of America won't and it'll be a huge blockbuster spurning 3 more sequels afterwards. Just you wait and see...

Aaaaaand speaking of sequels, there's this one.

Why?

That's the million dollar question folks. Megan, PLEASE don't make me see this in theaters....

Pensacon Review

Since this has become my "Pensacon Post" week, I thought I'd go ahead and give my grade on the con overall:

Vendors: 1

Nothing new, nothing unique, nothing but the bland same things you can find anywhere else. When I look at vendors I look to see if they have something that impresses me, is unique and is a good deal. These vendors struck out on all accounts.

This con featured SEVERAL Power Rangers and yet the vendors obviously didn't know who their audience was. Hardly any Power Ranger stuff could be found and we were on the floor looking for some the first day!

I couldn't believe how detached the vendors were not to come to a con with a significant amount of merchandise that coincided with the celebrity guest. Nothing was a head turner on the floor and all of it was overpriced. FAIL

Staff: 2

I felt bad for them. It wasn't their fault more the venue being too small but it doesn't mean they couldn't have seen it coming.

Sure Friday went smooth but when the flood gates opened on Saturday morning the place turned in to a zoo. The staff (while friendly) was overwhelmed by the amount of traffic. Hopefully next year they'll move it to a new venue for a more manageable con.

Cosplay: 2

Folks were dressed up here and there and overall it wasn't that bad. Their was a wookie that impressed me and it seemed a good many made he effort to come dressed up which I can appreciate. It's no Dragoncon but then again, what is?!

Overall Score: 5

I hate to give it such a low score, but bad vending tables really hurt it's score. If you want to check it out next year it's worth your time ONLY if they change the venue. If they're still at the same place next year AVOID AT ALL COST!

Pensacon pics!

 First off, is this awesome Cracker Jack car that put me in the mood for baseball season! Best part about this seat is the car seats are made from the same leather as a baseball!

Princes of the Universe Episode 12

In this Episode we talk about the movie series Riddick and Leprechaun as well as...you guessed it, the Star Wars Expanded Universe!

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!

Were green, drink green beer, pinch people, wake up early the next day and go back to work like nothing happened.

I used to love this holiday. Now all I do is refuse to were green and go to bed early.

What a fuddy-duddy I'm turning out to be.

Pensacon (2)

So while we were in I decided to go visit our old beach house we used to rent out. It's gone. As are the rest of the old houses that were there.

Blown away by Ivan, years ago. It was weird to see it all gone.

At least the water tower's still painted like a beach ball!

The saddest moment came when I saw my favorite putt-putt place had been replaced by a hotel. In all our years there I NEVER lost on that course.

Guess now that record will hold forever.

Sucks when places change.

Pensacon (1)

A few weeks ago we went to Pensacon in Pensacola Florida. It was the first time I'd been back there in almost 15 years!

Snow Day

So a few weeks ago the improbable happened.

Snow in Louisiana.

And although it stopped before I got off work, I did manage to go out to my car and make this on my lunch break....while half to the town had the day off and got to play in it all day.

Sucks.

I know I haven't done this in over a year but I hardly download apps anymore so I stopped.

But this new game Megan showed me last month deserves honorable mention. Trivia Crack is a fun semi-easy Trivia Pursuit. (and WAY more fun to play)

She's the only one I'm playing with right now, so if you have it and play please look me up sometime for a game!

SCTV: Count Floyd

Another SCTV favorite of mine was Count Floyd. Talking about how scary movies were but in reality weren't scary at all. Watch ALL of his clips on YouTube to see why he's so great!

In fact, I loved this character so much that I made him a slightly different character version of him in my old Cardco comic book series back in the day!

SCTV: Bob & Doug McKenzie

Back when Comedy Central had first started up as a channel, it didn't have original content to torment us with. (Sharkopus anyone?) So it played re-runs of an old show that got it's start before SNL.

SCTV had some of the best skits and characters I've ever seen and it's still hilarious today!

Check out this clip from one of my favorites The McKenzie Brothers. If that guy on the left looks familiar, he should. It's Rick Moranis of Honey I Shrunk the Kids fame!

The McKenzie Brothers got so popular they even made a movie about them. Strange Brew. A GREAT comedy that I watch every so often and never get tired of. They also came out with an album I listen to on CD every year.

These guys are funny and here's just one example of what I'm talking about. Feel free to check out more on YouTube if you're so inclined!

Bowery Boys

Growing up, Dad introduced us to one of his childhood (and now forgotten) favorites. The Bowery Boys. Centered around a few boys from the Bowery, these old comedies were a delight to watch. They were all at our local library and we checked out each one over the course of a few months. All of them were enjoyable.

It doesn't take long to warm up to people like Slip and Satch and after a while we knew the whole gang by name and would walk around like Satch (his character walk was hilarious) and quote from the movies we so loved.

This clip isn't the best but the only one short I could find. You can watch entire movies on YouTube. If you like old black and white shows, I can assure you this one's well worth your time!

Mets Spring Report

Geez, what a frustrating year to be a Mets fan. (as opposed to any other year? I get it, har har)
But this year adds new frustrations as the Mets continue to look good and bad at the same time.

First off, I admit with Matt Harvey coming back this year it looks like we have a chance to get in the Wild Card but I have a feeling we'll fall short.

Our new "bum" Michael Cuddyer is living up to his nickname. Taking the Mets for millions of dollars a year and under performing. He stayed injured half the season last year and I'm not optimistic about his chances in 2015 either. I can't believe we traded a draft pick for this bozo!

We're the 10th lowest paid team in baseball which unless you're a MLB team based out of Houston is pathetic. We're a big market team (the biggest in sports) playing on a small market budget. Which Bud Selig (and now his new predecessor) decided to look the other way, hum loudly and pretend nothing about the situation looks fishy.

Yeah I hate the ownership. The Wilpons should have been thrown out of baseball YEARS ago. But thanks to their many connections to the "powers that be" they get to keep their team. I really hope the fan movement to have them removed is picked up by the MLB brass, but I doubt it ever will. Wilpon-4-Life will sadly be the Mets motto for the next decade or so.

The ONLY positive thing of the season is knowing we have the leagues #4 best farm club in the system. That's got to account for something right?!

We have an overflow of THE best pitchers in the league right now. (Sandy Alderson so trade some of that talent for bats) And an overall excellent minor league system in all other areas. So maybe the future will be better as it goes along and the reason the Mets are sandbagging their money right now is because they want to invest in that future.

But then again... I'm doubtful.

Mall Memories

Today I wanted to reminisce on some old Stores I visited from my mall rat days...

 Remember the old Toy R Us store front? Jeffery the Giraffe was their mascot. Kinda weird why'd they'd pick that kind of animal to represent their store but I don't see him on the logo's today. And last Xmas when I took my nephews their to pick out their presents I didn't see the mascot anywhere.

Guess he's a figure of the past now.

 Suncoast Video is where EVERYONE went to get their movies. I remember pre-ordering a few here myself back in the day. The also had every kind of older movie on DVD you could ever want! It was the Blockbuster of movie retailers.

Surprisingly I read there are still some around though I've never seen any since college.

 B Dalton holds a special memory in my heart. It's the place where I purchased my first Star Wars book! I bought all 3 Timothy Zahn books from here... and the rest is history!

I'd almost forgotten about these stores until studying for this post! I don't know if any are open today but back when I was a kid we always loved going in here. One because the store front had the barn look that made it stand out from other stores in the mall and two because they used to hand out free samples of cheese and meats. (which every hungry kid was grateful for)

Again, I know the brand still exist but the stores may be a thing of the past.

Great smells of Spring

So spring is finally among us and I thought it'd be fun to discuss with you what smells give me great memories of spring time.

 An old book. It's a smell I always love but the Spring seems to get me reinvigorated to start a new novel again. Maybe it's the spring showers? After all, what's better than curling up with a good book while it's raining outside?

The answer? Not much.

 Fresh cut grass. I think everyone will agree with me here. I love it for it's smell and the memories I had while working in my own lawn care business. This smell indicated the work was over and that was just as good to me!

Finally a baseball glove. Spring was when the league's starting gearing up so you threw the old ball around in the yard getting ready for the new season.

To me, the scent of a baseball glove is the most comporting of all. Can't explain why, jut know that it is.
