Guess who's back?!

OH YEAH!!! Found the little darlings at my Target this week. Wanted to buy the whole lot but settled on just 6.

I won't lie however...I'm going back for more next week.

SUPER excited they're back, though Target has been the only place I've seen them at! These get harder and harder to find each year!

October Movie Preview

Ok, let's do this.

 First Man

This actually looks pretty good but I think I'll wait until Redbox.

 Goosebumps 2

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! No.
 Halloween

Nope. ZERO interest. Megan wants to see it but she's going to have to find someone else who wants to waste money on a ticket.

Venom

This looks HORRIBLE! I don't even know why they bothered making it when they got off to such a good start with the Spiderman reboot. This seems sloppy and would ruin things for Sony. PASS.

Miss anything? Let me know in the comments below!

Daredevil Comic Review

Finally finished my last run of Marvel comics from the huge collection I got last year. And it looks like I saved the best for last!

The series started with Frank Miller's run and also included the epic Bendis run as well. But for those moments inbetween.....well, let's just say they weren't great.

Skateboarding Daredevil, to impress the kids in the neighborhood he's "hip" Not joking. This happened two issues after Miller's run. There were more pages of him skateboarding but that one on the left is the most laughable and shameful moment in Daredevil's history.

Here's another one where his girlfriend Karen is drying Daredevil's costume outside on a clothes line....amazing none of the neighbors noticed this.

Preach it DD!

And here he is cheating people out of money in a game of pool. Why? Because Miller left the series and they no idea what to do with the character after that.

Here's another one where DD's wearing a beauty mask and cucumber's over his eyes. There were 2 more pages of this for no apparent reason than to give Karen something to do at the beginning of the story.

And finally, after the Bendis run, Daredevil received super strength enough to bust open car doors.....yep.

Overall however the series was the best out of all the comics I read and worth my time. Now I'm on the hunt for what I should read next!

Top Kickstarters I've backed!

A few years ago, I backed a game on Kickstarter for the first time, the next year I backed one more. I thought it was going to be a annual thing....but then last year I backed 3. Now I've backed 8, so today I wanted to talk about all of them and which one's I'm looking forward to the most!

9) Networks Executives

One of the first game I ever backed was The Networks. I game about running a TV Station. It's super fun, so when the expansion came out on Kickstarter I backed it without a second thought....and I regret it.

Several unexplained delays, shallow excuses and just plain bad communication with the backers has soured my taste for the publisher. This is the only game on the list I backed in 2017 and in that time 2 other games have gotten me BEFORE this game has.

What's worse is that this game is just extra cards added to the game where the other two games were chalked full of meeples, figures and special dice.

Yeah, when this one comes in it's going to be more of a reminder of my regret than excitement.

8) Homesteaders: New Beginnings

Speaking of expansions to games I have, there this one. I backed it mainly because my entire board game group loves it while I'm really so-so on it. It didn't cost much and it looks like it could bring some new stuff to the game so I'm interested in seeing how much it improves once I add the expansion.

7) Dinosaur Island: Totally Liquid

Seeing a theme here? Not only is this another expansion but to a game I think it pretty darn fun! I missed the first kickstarter for the base game and regretted it. This time around I got in immediately and by the time this posts I may actually be playing the game!

Sea dinos, more events, executives and areas to control is going to catapult this game to new heights on my list. Love the early 90's look to the game as well!

6) Firenze

I've been looking for this game on and off for over a year. It looks fantastic but it cost SO much because it's out of print. But the day they brought the 2nd edition to Kickstarter I was among the FIRST to pledge!

This game looks excellent and for less than half the cost of an old version, I'll be receiving one sometime early next year.

5) Trogdor

Dang it. I'm a StrongBad Fan and when I saw this game I knew I had to have it. They even made Homestar Runner meeples of all the characters from the cartoon that serve NO purpose in the game but I want them all the same! The game looks very simple but only because it's Trogdor, I had to back it on principle alone!

Looking forward to this one as well in 2019!

4) Amerigo (Mini-Expansions)

I have the game and wasn't interested in buying a new version of it but when I saw they were offering the hugely expensive mini-expansions for cheap I had to get them! I LOVE this game and want the mini-expansions but they go for $100 a pop on Ebay and nothing so small is worth that amount of money.

$30 (including shipping) was right up my alley. The game's already great, these mini-expansions won't make it better but won't hurt it either. Looking forward to this one coming in soon.

3) Seize the Bean

Backed this one early in the year and though I'm disappointed about the multiple delays they've had with the game (causing it to be released now in mid-2019) but other than that, the game looks like it's going to be both fun and beautiful looking, since it's using imitation sugar cubes and coffee beans for it's pieces, I think this one's going to look great when it comes out.

Just hope they'll be no more delays.

2) Fireball Island

I'm so excited to have a chance at playing this game exactly 20 years from the day I first played the original. I'm looking forward to all the expansions and new gameplay. It looks beautiful, colorful and full of fun! I had a chance to see the demo at BGG Spring Con this year, however I didn't get a chance to play it.

This would've been my #1...but then this news came out....

1) Project Elite

The CMON edition is going to be incredible I just know it. Once this comes out, I will back it immediately, no hesitation. Done. I have the original version of the game, love it. Will NEVER let it leave my collection but I am SO looking forward to adding this one to my collection as well.

It will be a day of great celebration when it arrives at my doorstep.

Bug Spray Truck

I remember as a kid running behind the bug spray truck on my bike. We played a game where we would see who could ride behind it the longest without bailing. For "protection" we'd pull our shirts up to our nose as a very ineffective mask that did nothing.

Who knows what they put in those things back in the 80's and if my Mom ever knew about back in the day we would have been in trouble but these days when I see the truck go by and the weak (I'm sure improved) spray that evaporates immediately, I think about riding my bike through a big billowing cloud of smoke and smile.....then cough up more blood.

What did they put in those clouds back in the day?

Jimmy on the B0Z0 Show 1986

Bozo the Clown

Back in my childhood days I remember watching one thing every weekday morning and that was Bozo.

He was on WGN from Chicago and my brothers and I didn't miss an episode in the 80's and early 90's. Wizzo and Cookie were his right hand men and when the actor playing Cookie suffered from heart problems, they brought in Spiffy to fill the gap.

These were characters we grew up loving as kids. (before clowns were labeled "scary") Though cheesy the show was fun to watch as Cookie tried every episode to lead the Grand March but was out smarted by Bozo every time he made a bet with him to see who would lead.
Sadly, the show ended in 2001 and besides reruns hasn't been seen since. Even recorded episodes are few and far between since the studio trashed them all shortly after it was over.

This is something I'd love to see come back one day though I think most of the actors are dead, they could be replaced if you had the right people.

I think if more people watched this show they'd love clowns a little bit more.

Cardco.....25 years ago

My favorite comic store as a kid was Cardco. Obviously right?

So when one of the guys from the store re-opened his own comic book shop in town I went by to see him. Later we exchanged pics from the old days and he showed me some of these.

Those were really good days back then. I'm happy I was able to see some of these pictures back in its hey day. Just wanted to share them with you today to kick off you weekend.

Have a good one folks!!

Throw up record

When I was 16 I got sick on our beach vacation. I threw up so bad it hurt my insides the entire night thereafter. It was after that moment I decided I'd try my best never to let it happen again.

25 years later and I'm still keeping that record, though there have been some close calls here and there. Food poisoning at my grandmothers house one night had everyone running for the bathrooms. I had some inner turmoil through out the night but shortly thereafter I made a comeback and held it in.

Other times with the flu had me face first over a toilet but nothing happening. I remember thinking when it happened last year that I was about to bust the record but thankfully kept it in again. There's been some close calls over the year but this is a record I'm happy to own for many more years to come.

Time will tell when the streak will end....

Seinfield discussion

Watching through the TV show and they brought up a good point in an episode. When is it too late to wish someone Happy New Year?

In the episode I saw, Elaine if greeting with it in February. I think the longest I've gone saying it is on the 2nd week in January though I wouldn't mind greeting someone for the first time that year with one if it were later in the month. After that, I don't think I'd use the greetings.

But what about you? When do you think is too late to wish someone "Happy New Year"?

Most annoying Moviegoers

Megan and I went and watched a movie last week and it got me thinking of who the worst movie goers are.
1) Crying babies

I know sometimes you can't help it but if yo kid starts getting loud, you have to exit the theater. No matter how much you want to see the film.

In our last outing we had a mom with this issue but she wouldn't leave because she wanted to see the film. She got shushed but a lot of people in the audience but still refused to leave until someone informed the theater staff and she had to go.

Incredible.

2) Talkers

Some people have no idea how to whisper. Also in our last outing we had a couple come in late to the film and though they were still on the ramp up the steps, they were talking normal to where the whole theater could hear them.

Of course you can have talkers sitting in the theater but they're usually shushed and shamed pretty good by everyone in the audience so I don't see that as much as I used to back in the day.

3) Late comers

We were 3 for 3 last weekend. People coming in late and then expecting you to either move to give them two seats (or more) together or walking in front of you. Not as annoying as the first 2 but still a pet peeve of mine.

Any suggestions for other entries to this list? I'd love to hear them!

What ever happened to wire coat hangers?

I know they're still in production somewhere but it's more rare in stores than you'd think. The reason I got to thinking about it is the other day when a pipe in my A/C unit wasn't draining, a friend of mine had a sure fix that involved using a wire coat hanger.

I looked everywhere around the house until I finally found one. I was shocked that most of my hangers had changed to plastic. When did this happen and how did I not notice it?!

It's things like this that I spend time thinking about some time.....sad.

Life with Lucy (Review)

So I finally watched the short lived 13 episode series Lucy ever made. It was so bad in the rating when it came out, it was cancelled after 9 episodes and only replayed once during a Nick at Nite marathon.

Thankfully, someone video taped them back in the day and posted them on YouTube to watch. While the series isn't that funny it was nice to see and hear a few big names and dilemmas back in the 80's that a lot of folks wouldn't understand now.

Now that I'm done I'm ready to move on to something new.....hmmmm....Seinfield's on Hulu.....

What the Future holds

Here's a few things of what I'd like to see in the future:

No More gasoline

I so wish we could get off the dependency of gas. We're getting gouged at the pumps, Big Oil's getting richer and there's better ways to make cars more efficient and get longer miles without depending on black crude.

I'm not an activist against fracking, I just think there should be more options in how a vehicle operates.

Hover cars

Been wanting this one since I was a kid. Hope I get to see one in the future before I go. I'd splurge for one too, just to ride in one while I could.

Faster Internet

I look forward to the day when I can tell others how super slow the internet was in my day. It's awful how slow it's been over the past 10 years with hardly any improvement in speed. I wonder if the internet will ever be fast enough to make me happy.

Guess we'll have to wait and see....hopefully that wait won't last too long!

In defense of the video store

It's true that years ago when Blockbusters around the world shut down that I stood up and applauded. Their out of date prices and refusal to look toward the future caused their ultimate demise. We only have one around town now and since it's in West Monroe, I hardly visit it.

The prices are still $5 which is insane seeing as how you can get the same movie at Rebox for a third of the cost, but somehow it continues to limp along.

But I think, if down right, it could rise again.

All the have to do is this:

1) Stock older films

Not everything is being streamed online. At any given time they would have movies that those services don't have. Plus, Redbox has an extremely limited supply of back movies so this would be enough to entice people to come in and look for movies they can't get anywhere else.

2) Lower prices to $2

Sure Redbox is lower but not by that much. If you keep your prices hovered about a couple of bucks you can compete against them.

3) Sell Used DVD's

Easy way to make some extra cash to help profit margins.

Anyway, that's my thought for the day.

Top 3 Cruises I'd like to go on

I enjoy cruises. Though I haven't been on one in over 10 years, I'd still like to go on another one someday. Here's the Top 3 I'd like to sail on:

3) Disney Cruise

This was the last one I went on and I'd like to try it again because I hear there's even more to do on them then there was back then. A lot can change in a decade and I have no doubt the Mouse had made great strides to compete in the battle over other cruise ships.

2) Alaskan Cruise

I hear they're awesome and by looking at the pictures I believe it. Not really sure if I'd have fun on a winter trip but I'd still give it a try to see the great state of Alaska.

1) Bahamas Cruise

But out of them all I'm a sucker for the beaches! A Bahamas cruise would be my #1 pick to sail the open seas on. I'd want to do it in the winter too so that way while it's cold here, I can be warm down there!

May try to go on one in 2019, we'll see if that turns out to happen or not.

Invader Zim (Review)

Another cartoon I've been watching in the mornings (and all through the weekend) was Invader Zim! It's still funny, a little gross but worth my time.

The artwork isn't my favorite, but the humor carries each episode well enough to over look it. It's coming back with a movie later this year. I'll check it out though my excitement level is at a medium.

The cartoon was good and is only 27 episodes, so if you're looking for something to watch, this may be the toon you're looking for.

Toys with you imagination

Remember being a kid and a stick being a sword...or a gun? A fishing pole and a bo staff? So many times as a kid we'd cherish certain branches that slightly resembled other objects. We didn't need Nerf products back then because we have nature as our toy chest!
In addition to that we also had cardboard boxes that we used as fighting arenas and spaceships for our action figures. Bigger boxes were ships or parts of a base once we colored in all the nobs and buttons on which to push. We didn't need playsets, we had mom and dad's unboxed items as our toys.

I'm sure kids today still have an imagination, I just hope it was as creative as the ones we had when I was a kid.

Have a good weekend folks!

A Decade of Dedication

10 years ago today the Mrs said "I guess" and we've made it this far! Wish we could've done a Disney trip this year but maybe we can push that off for another year.

Happy Anniversary to my girl!

Silver Surfer Comic Review

Didn't even know I had this series until looking in to the back of my final box. Not many comics in this collection but it did start at #1 which is always fun to see!

I have no idea who thought this would be a good idea for a comic book but for the first couple of issues it wasn't that bad. There was a moment in the series I thought the comic was going to be great, due to the humor infused for a few issues but sadly they backed away from the silliness and went straight for the strange space sagas that bored you.

Finding our more about the Surfer's character was good. And seeing some familiar space beings from other comics was a nice surprise here and there, but overall I can't recommend anyone reading the series.  There just wasn't enough to hold my interest.

On to the next (and final) comic series in my collection....Daredevil.

Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness (Review)

I've enjoyed the Panda movies overall. Megan and I still quote the 3rd movie to this day. They're not my favorite but since I've enjoyed Dreamworks other TV series like Puss in Boots and All Hail King Julian, I thought I'd give this one a try.

It was better than Puss but not King Julian. This show has continuity within itself and the movies. Taking place between the first 2 movies, this tells of how Po grew in power in knowledge. The stories had me laugh out loud at least once each episode. Some moments were clearly better than others but overall, the series was an enjoyable show to watch while eating my breakfast each morning.

Now to find another cartoon to enjoy with my morning cereal!

Happy Labor Day!

I don't have any plans either....but hope you all have a good day off!
