App of the week!

So here I am talking about obesity this week and now I'm promoting an App that is all about it!

Fatify is the free app you can get which shows you how fat, fat can get when you take a photo of your face and have them add you an extra chin at no charge.

What do you think? Is this guy looking sexy or what?? Megan has a lot to look forward to if I let myself go in the future!

Have a good weekend folks, I'm going to go search for some PIE!!!

The REAL problem with obesity

A lot of articles have come out recently about the problem we have with obesity. They blame fast food, sugary drinks and just about everyone else BUT those responsible.

For kids the blame goes strictly on the head of the parents. If you don't prepare healthy meals for your kids or can't so "No" to them every time they ask for a treat then you're the one to blame mom and dad. You're children can live without having a Happy Meal every day and I'm living proof of that!

If they'd stop taking the easy way out of picking up fast food after work and just take a few minutes instead making healthy choices there wouldn't be this obesity problem in the first place.

Secondly, they should tell there kids to GO OUTSIDE!

Growing up, we were never allowed more than an hour of TV a day (excluding Saturdays) and even Nintendo was cut to an hour. After that, it was outside! If you don't live in a neighborhood with a bunch of kids then buy them a bike and have them ride it around all afternoon. We LOVED our bikes back in the day and went every where on them!

Now for the adults. Government wants to blame anyone they can for the overweight problem America has and has come up with several ways to combat it....by raising taxes.

Just like government, that's the only thing they know how to do. But how about this keen idea....LOWER them! That's right. Provide tax breaks for farmers to mass produce vegetables and fruit, thereby dropping the average price of the crop and making it more affordable for Americans to buy. The farmer pays next to nothing in taxes and therefore wouldn't feel the crunch of the lower rates for their crops. In fact, more crop at a lower rate may lead to more money in most cases.

You hear about farmers destroying leftover crops all the time. Such a waste of healthy food wouldn't be necessary if this rule was in place.

This way when I see cheeseburgers at a fast food place for 3 bucks, but three bucks also buys me a dozen apples, two heads of lettuce and a pound of tomatoes, I may just say, no thanks! Milk the same price as a 2 liter bottle of Coke. Hmmm... let me think about that one.... see? The choice is easy.

But nothing's ever easy in Washington, all they want to do is talk about raising taxes and "awareness", which won't do us a bit of good as we reach for that second helping of fried chicken at the buffet table.

App of the week

Welcome to our App of the week! A new review I'll be doing for a little while to talk to you about some neat-o apps you may or may not have heard of.

My first one is called: Bag It!

The delightful game of bagging groceries. Yep, you heard me. Bag your items correctly or they will get mashed and you'll lose points! It's a lot harder than you think! But overall, very entertaining at the same time! Try it out for free at your app store.

Have a good weekend folks!

Memory Lane Monday Part 2

You knew I'd have to talk about the Fisher Price toys eventually. I think we had just about all of the playsets you see above and we loved every minute with these things too! Gotta hand it to FP, they sure knew how to make some fun out of quadrapalegic people!

Man! Even the furniture on these things sends me back! And I used that airplane to carry many pvc figures on adventures as well!

(sigh) I wanna go back and play with my old toys now....

That's all for toys from our past! C-ya tomorrow with a brand new comic strip!

Memory Lane Monday

Ok, just one more day of this and I promise more comic strips are on the way.

Remember GUTS????

This was probably the single greatest moment in pvc figure history. I couldn't find all the pictures I wanted of these guys but the countless hours of fun I had with them will never be forgotten. When these came out I thought they were the coolest things EVER. (still do in a way)

Retro Week

Remember SOMA toys? As you know, I loved pvc figures growing up and Jeremy, Bray and I will tell you, nothing occupied our playing time more than these figures. (the karate and ninja ones to be exact) I remember a friend of ours having the pirates and robin hood figures (they were fun too) but nothing beat the ninja's for me!

Have a great week folks!

Retro week (14)

Remember Slam Basket?! The greatest Basketball game ever made?! I loved this game and played it all day long during the NCAA tournaments! A ping pong ball made to look like a bb was shot by prongs you could flick back and shoot for the basket. The scoreboards even helped you keep a manual count.

If I saw this in stores today I'd probably get it. No lie. It was a great game!

Retro Week

Embarrassingly enough, I remember the Tooney Choo Choo which played a plastic record you put in as it chugged along. I think it used to be Bray's toy and he always liked hearing the music played. To me, the records made for good ninja stars.

Retro week (13)

Remember Wee Waffle Bricks?! All you could really make out of them was a box or a tower, but this made excellent cages for my super heroes when they got trapped!

Retro Week

Coleco Head to Head Football. Before there was Nintendo there was this. I spent HOURS on this game. It was just a couple of red dots but it was a whole lot of fun. I NEVER got tired of it. (would still play it today in fact)

This is back when I couldn't imagine a hand held game to get any better than this....I'm still right!

Retro week (12)

Run Yourself Ragged. The game where you put a ball bearing on an obstacle course within a certain time limit to win. This game was at a friends house I remember, and I used to play it all the time!

I almost bought it a couple months back on eBay but held up due to the price and the fact I probably wouldn't find it as fun as I once did.

But still.... it IS nice.... maybe.... eh....

Retro Week

Please tell me someone remembers Major Music. The electronic device that let you play several song just be looking at a color code on a sleeve you slipped thru the front of the device. Again, hours were spent with us playing songs like Row Row Row Your Boat and Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Major Music was one cool dude!

Retro week (11)

Pizza Party, the incredibly fun game where you match up pieces for your slice of pizza, the person who had them all first won! The game wouldn't be as fun as it was as a kid yet still...I'd play a round or two with it!

Retro Week

Remember Magic Slate? COME ON!! I KNOW you do!!! You'd draw whatever picture you wanted to on it then lift the paper to erase the drawing! They had them with all kinds of people on them. I think we had at least 3 of these EACH as a kid!

I wonder what ever happened to them? Don't see them in store anymore now that I think of it.

Retro week (10)

Anyone have the Double Dare game? I remember my grandmother giving it to us as a present one year when she came to visit. We were stoked! But the game really wasn't all that. The items were cheaply made and didn't last that long, but I guess it was the whole principle of it right?

Saturday funnies

So earlier this week I tried out BK's new BACON SUNDAE! (come on, are you really that surprised?) And here's what I thought...

Retro Week

Continuing my love of pvc figures these had to be at the top of the list! Kellogg's cartoon afternoon line of toys were so popular in their cereals that they actually came out for sale in stores later on. I wanted them all! In fact, Gizmo Duck, Sonny Bear, Grouchy Bear, Webigal, Louie, Monteray Jack and the Darkwing Duck line were all I was missing.

Oh man did I spend hours playing with these toys!

Retro week (9)

Remember the Fisher-Price croquet set? We played with this so many times as kids. It was the funnest thing for us back then! We set them up in different areas all over our back yard and play for hours. SO much fun!

Retro Week

Glo-worms. DON'T LAUGH!

Yes, we had them growing up and we thought they were cool too.

STOP LAUGHING!

It was awesome taking them to bed with us at night and watching them glow under the sheets. The were a night time toy that required no lights and THAT was cool back in the day! (we had glow-in-the-dark pj's back then too)]

SHUT UP! IT'S NOT FUNNY!

Retro week (8)

The Crazy Combo Flute Horn from Fisher Price. I have no idea why but we had this toy growing up. You could make several different musical instruments out of all these pieces. To what purpose I have no idea. Seriously, what were they thinking making a toy like this? Does anyone else even remember this toy??

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Go watch some fireworks...and then be disappointed.

Retro Week

Remember Bumble boxing? You wind up to toys just to play the game? I had wind up Football, Jeremy had boxing and Bray had Strolling Bowling. All three of them were awesome toys/games. Kinda wish they still made these today!

Retro week (7)

I've already expressed my love of pvc figures to you as a child but do you remember when they came in boxes of Captain Crunch cereal?!? I remember having all but the Soggy character in the picture above. I don't know why but digging into that box and getting that toy was one of the best moments of my childhood!

Retro Week

Don't Break the Ice.

I think I had more fun putting this game together and knocking out the ice myself with action figures rather than playing the game.

You can only imagine the millions of time my action figures had to cross the perilous "ice of doom" as they barely made it to the other side before falling in.

Retro week (6)

Retro week continues with the Chipmunks pvc figures! First off I have to admit, I LOVED playing with pvc figures as a kid. I have NO idea why but it was true! I had most of the ones you see here. The angel Alvin used to be my favorite. I remember getting him as a gift from my grandmother in Gadston when we went up to visit her.

I still have one or two of them around the house and though it's tempting to start collecting them I don't think they're THAT important to me to keep.
