May movie Preview

Dang! The month snuck up on me again! Ok, here goes!

Captain America: Civil War Avengers 2.5

Once again, they don't trust Captain America to hold a movie on his own so they brought in the Avengers to get people to come to the theaters to see it. Notice how Marvel keeps calling it "Civil War" hoping we'd forget this is a Cap movie. Sucks, but the Mrs. loves her Capn' A so I'll be seeing this one for sure.

Angry Birds

Never cared that much for the game but the movie actually looks fun. That being said, I won't be seeing it in theaters though. Maybe at Redbox, but only if it's a slim pickings.

Alice Through the Looking Glass Emo Kid Movie 2

Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice....

X-Men: Apocalypse

On one hand, this movie looks great. Interesting villain and an interesting story. On the other hand... I HATE the new X-men actors. All of them. They bore me to no end. So will I watch it? The jury's still out on this one. If Megan wants to see it, I guess I'll go....on the other hand, I'm more than happy to want till DVD on this one.

Did I miss any movies for May? Let me know!

Other Events I'd like to see

I spoke about baseball games, now let's talk about all the other sporting events out there that I'd like to go see!

5. Aussie Football

As a friend of mine from Melbourne describes it, it's a little  rugby, a little soccer, a little American football and.... the dribble the ball every so many steps. This wild assortment of rules is the most popular sport in their nation and I'd love to see what all the hype is about!

4. Olympics

When I was a kid back in the 90's, I used to imagine what it would be like to witness the Olympic games. So many people from so many countries, all in one place at the same time? Count me in! Don't really care which event it is, I'd love to see one someday!

3. Wrestlemania

Who doesn't want to attend the biggest event in sports entertainment?! A few years back some friends of mine went and had a great time. Ever since, I've always imagined what it would be like to go to one myself! I don't watch the sport anymore but that doesn't stop me from wanting to see it.

2. Red Wings game

Ooooh boy! I'd love to see a game one day! Red Wings fans are some of the most passionate in the sport! I have friends up there who tell me there's nothing like it too and I believe them.

1. Iron Bowl

This one was easy. The ultimate rivalry game in sports history. Ranked #2 under the Yankees/Red Sox it's an event of epic proportions and I'd love to be a part of it some day! Problem is, it cost $1000 for the cheapest tickets. So unless I win a contest for them, looks like I want be going anytime soon.

There's my 5 sporting events. What's yours?

AL Stadiums I want to visit

Since I spoke about National League games I wanted to visit yesterday I thought I'd make today all about the American League. So here we go!

5. A's

It's been called the worst stadium in baseball and with a title like that, I've got to see what all the hate is about! Plus it's the A's. I wouldn't mind seeing them play baseball either!

4. Red Sox

Though I hate this team, that isn't enough to keep me from wanting to visit Fenway Park. See the green wall ad the Red Sox lose, would make for a great day indeed! (Unless it's the Yankees which in that case, GO SOX!)

3. Tigers

When I visited Detroit many years ago I had a chance to visit Comerica Park but turned it down. I've regretted it ever since. Now I wish I had a chance to make it up and see the Tigers play there someday. From the outside, the park looked beautiful. I bet it's even better on the inside.

2. Rays

I admit that without Joe Maddon there anymore, the yearning to attend a game has eased over time but hasn't gone away. Like the Marlins, the Rays have trouble filling a stadium but they still have enough players on the team to make an exciting game. And from what I can tell, the stadium doesn't look bad either! A win-win in my book!

1. Brewers

Great stadium. Great owners. Great fans. Milwaukee has it all and I'd love to be at a game one day!

What about you folks? What game would you love to go see?

NL Stadiums I want to visit

With baseball season in full force it's got me thinking of the Top 5 Stadiums I'd love to visit one day to watch a game!

5. Cardinals

I hear there's nothing like baseball in St Louis. I'd love to find out if that's true one day. I can always appreciate a baseball town and that's exactly what this place is. They have the highest viewership for the World Series in the nation even when their team ISN'T in it! Amazing.

4. Reds

And speaking of baseball towns, no knows baseball longer than the Cincinnati Reds! The oldest team in baseball! I'd love to see a game here for the same reasons as I had for St Louis. Even like to try a little of that famous chili while I'm at it too!

3. Marlins

I have no respect for the owners, but after reading a hilarious piece on MLB.com about how much fun they had at a game, I just have to see it for myself one day! Supposedly, the stadium is so empty these days that you can buy a ticket in the nosebleed section, sit in the front row behind hoe plate and no one will check your ticket because they're just glad you're here! Ha! I would probably cheer for the other team as well who knows? One thing's for sure, I won't be wearing one of those ugly hats, that's for sure!

2. Cubs

C'mon! Who wouldn't want to go see Wrigley Field?! This is the backbone of baseball stadiums! I hope one day I can make the trip to the ivy covered wall and enjoy an American Pastime in a timeless classic.

1. Mets

Of course this was going to be my #1 answer! My favorite team and I've never been to New York to see them play...yet. Now that my brother lives there though I guess I have no excuse not to go! I've always dreamed of watching a game screaming "Let's Go Met's" with thousands of other fans.

One day....one day....

Remember the Magical Musical Thing?

Holy crow! My buddy had one of these and I never understood the purpose of it. It played notes and even gave you a songbook to play hits like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Mary had a little Lamb"

I never knew ANYONE who could play it well and you really only saw folks pick it up, punch a few buttons, put it back down and walk away.

I can't say I would even do that these days if I saw it again.

Have a good weekend folks!

Remember Mattel's Toy Shopping Cart?

I remember this thing was made of steel and the toughest plastic! This was back in the 70's when toys were for men!!
Ok, a little extreme but this was a solid built toy, no doubt about that!

Remember Stadium Checkers

Holy cow! I came across this while surfing the web the other day!

I remember playing the heck out of this when I was a kid! It's wild that I'd forgotten about it after all this time! The object of the game was to get as many of your marbles to the center before anyone else did.

Fun memories but not worth getting again I think. Time would not be as kind to this game for me now I believe.

Anyway, just thought I would share!

This is what envy looks like

So I was visiting a friend a few weeks back and I finally got a look at his new house when low and behold, this bad boy's starring me in the face.

If you can't tell, it's a autographed Episode 2 poster with everyone's signature on it, including Frank Oz (the voice of Yoda) Samuel Jackson, Christopher Lee (now deceased) and the man himself, George Lucas.

My buddy got it from his parents in return for watching their dog while they were away. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! He got a freaking autographed poster for that?!?!

Needless to say, I begged him for his parents number so to let them know that I will spoon feed their dog myself if they need a sitter next time.

Incredible.
And to top it all off, he had this coffee table in his living room!!

It's almost as if he was rubbing it in....

Ted's Hot Dogs

So there's this place I like to eat at when I visit Phoenix call Ted's. I went there the first time out of curiosity while passing by. This time, I went on purpose. And here's why:

First off, the inside looks like it hasn't changed since 1983 and I like that. A lot. It doesn't feel old, just "preserved" in that time when you were young, hanging out with your buddies and goofing off. The lighting even gives off that familiar yellow hue most places had back in the day.
And the food....oh my goodness. Everything is cooked fresh over the grill and you can definitely taste it too!
From home made onion rings and milk shakes made from scratch, this place gives you that great feeling you had back in the day when all you cared about was Guns and Roses and seeing the Ninja Turtle movie.

LOVE IT!

Sedona pics

Here's a few pics from my trip to Sedona a few weeks ago.
As you can see, it's such a lovely place!
I even bowed to the whole "tourist pressure" and bought some fudge for $13!
If work ever send me out this way again I think I'd like to visit this place again. It was a great time!

Have a good weekend folks!!

Sedona (7)

Ok folks! That's all my videos from Sedona! Tomorrow I'll show a few pics from what is turning into my travel blog. LOL

Sedona (6)

I even got honked one time for driving too slow. Ha ha ha! Some much for small town love!

Sedona (5)

Honestly, I kept imagining a coyote chasing a road runner the whole time I was driving thru!

Sedona (4)

As you see, I'm now filming with the windows down so you don't have to see thru the bug splattered windshield.

Sedona (3)

Fun fact about the city is that it doesn't have stop signs. They only use round-a-bouts. Which was fine by me since I'm use to driving on them.

I have to say it was a pretty unique feature to an already incredible town!

Sedona (2)

Man! They weren't kidding about this place too! It's super beautiful all around the area! Kinda reminded me of Gatlinberg, TN in a way.

Sedona (1)

My first trip I took was to Sedona. I'd heard a lot about how beautiful it was and had to check it out for myself.

Today I'll be posting more "old man videos" of the town.

Enjoy!

AZ videos (7)

K, I'm done with the road trip videos!

Tomorrow I'll tell you about my final destination for this trip was!

Stay tuned...

AZ videos (6)

Ok, I'm almost done with these. Just let me post one more and I'll drop the whole "AZ is so cool" ad from my blog. : )

AZ videos (5)

Looking back on these now, I can easily say this was one of my favorite things I did on my trip there!

AZ videos (4)

Everywhere I turned looked like a postcard at the drug store! Oh and I know I was playing some weird music but it made the scenery seem that much more amazing.

AZ videos (3)

The only thing that sucked is that I had to shoot the video inside of my car. There was no place to get out and capture it all. The roads were so small!!

AZ videos (2)

Growing up in the south, I didn't get see mountains like this. Which is probably why I was so fascinated with them here!

I can't tell you how many times, I went "OH Ooooh!" the whole drive!

AZ videos (1)

Ok, you're going to have to forgive me for posting like an old man today but I've just got to show you these mountains!! They're amazing!

Many more videos to come today!

King of the mountain!

This is what victory looks like!

Ok folks, I'll see ya tomorrow with more video of this place!

Race to the mountain! (2)

Part 2 to my video.

Victory pic coming up next.

Race to the moutain! (1)

Last year when I was here to visit, you'll recall I tried climbing (hiking really) this mountain in town. It took me a while and exhausted me at the end but I did it!

When I went back last week, I decided to try my luck again and see how well I would fair, now that I'm in better shape.

Did I make it up this time? Find out later today!

Tombstone video

Here's a little video of a "Stage Coach Tour" you could take around the small town. Novel and quaint but not worth the money I assure you.

Tombstone

On my trip out to Phoenix last week, I really wanted to visit Tombstone, AZ. I loved the movie and enjoy the history and folklore of the place, so I decided to give it a visit and see what it was like.
That's the OK Corral. No really. That's all it is.
See?

I knew this place was a tourist trap but MY GOODNESS was it ever! I little TOO "trappy" in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I went out there, but once was certainly enough for me. If you're in the neighborhood, you should stop there too but watch out! Even looking at a townsfolk will cost ya!

Spring Training (2)

I thought about buying Megan a spring training hat. They weren't fitted, just the cheap stretchy kind you see at a lot of stores.
Except they don't say $43 on the price tag!! (strike 3)
As you can see. My spot in on the lawn really packed out!
In fact, the whole stadium was packed!
But watching a game by yourself isn't that fun. I left before it was over and didn't feel the need to go to another one that week.

Final verdict: If it's a team you love, do it. If there's no one of interest playing on the field? Save your money for a real game.

(I'm out!)

Spring Training (1)

Last week, I had to work out in Phoenix, Arizona. While I was there I attended an Angels spring training game.

Here was the way too expensive Angels gear for idiots to buy for the game.
I waited outside to see if I could get an autograph of CJ Wilson for Megan but the pitchers never came out. (strike one)
The stadium itself looked really nice. I have to admit. I got excited walking in to it.
And the inside wasn't bad either, then again what else would you expect in the majors?
I sat out on the lawn. It was nice.
Because the bucket seat ranged from $67 to over $100. For a spring training game!? (strike 2)

More coming tomorrow!

Starriors!

Does anyone else remember these toys!? Oh man! I just found out what they were called and looked them up on the internet! They were SO MUCH fun to play with as a kid.

It's funny because back in the day, toys didn't need a cartoon series to make them cool. Just imaginative people with great ideas like this one.

Fantastic stuff!

Sorry, had a nostalgia attack and had to share it!

Just to add to it, these a few pics I forgot to post earlier this week. Remember my talk of Check E Cheese last month? Look what I found at one of the antique stores I visited last week!
And if it weren't $125, I might had picked it up too. Oh well!

Have a good one folks!

Tuesday, April 05, 2016

Oh the things you can find (2)

Time to talk about more finds at the antique store! (that I didn't buy)

Megan bought me that Ewok glass last month for 1/5 of what these bozo's were trying to sell it for. LOSERS!
I always wanted the Ewok village as a kid. But again, this dealer was WAY overpriced!

 Amazing collection though.
I must have starred at it for over 10 minutes!
 Who ya gonna call?
There was no price on these but they were called Star Commanders (I think) The had magnets on their feet that would stick to the playsets. Very cool stuff! Wish I could find the whole set of them someday....for under $1000.
No idea why someone would pay this much but hey, there's a sucker born every day!
