Retro Week

Did you ever have the game "Grabitz"? It was from the makers of Uno in an attempt to start another card game craze. We actually had one that looked exactly like this. You had to use the cards to spell out the word GRABITZ, when you did you grabbed a plastic fist. Last one without a fist to grab is out and like musical chairs another fist is removed from the game as you play the next round. Eventually when it's down to 2 players, the first one to spell out the cards wins.

Odd game...yet very fun to play.

Even MORE next week!!

Retro week (5)

Remember the Wheel of Fortune game? We never had it but a friend of ours did and whenever we went over to his house I'd want to play it. (basically spin the wheel and uncover words) I remember thinking how cool this game was... not so sure it would stand the test of time now however.

Retro Week

Remember the game "Ants in your pants"? Little plastic ants you had to flip with your thumb into the hard plastic pants. Whoever got all their color in the pants first one.

What an odd game. I remember playing it with my brothers and mom, so really liked the game.

Retro week (4)

Remember Kerplunk? The game where you pulled the sticks thru without letting the marbles drop and the person with the most marbles at the end lost?

Can you believe they STILL make this game too?? Now how come they have this but NOT a remake of the classic "Fireball Island"?!?

Retro Week

Remember Boglins? We didn't have any growing up but I remember they were just hand puppets in weird packaging. I never knew why they were so popular back in the day, I'd always look at them at the store and say "Why??"

Retro week (3)

Remember the squirt ring? I had one just like this except the ring was orange and the water pouch was green. I thought it was the coolest thing ever too! I'd be like "Hey, wanna see my ring?" and they'd say "No way! That's a squirt ring!"

Yeah, it never really fooled anybody.

Retro Week

Remember Smurf pvc toys? Always fun to play with and collect. These are just a few I remember having. But there's tons more pictures on the web if you feel extra nostalgic today!

Retro week (2)

Remember the Shirt Tales? All I could find of them was a lunch box and these die cast cars (which I had growing up) Believe it or not I actually thought I was COOL when I brought this lunchbox with me to school!

I remember having some other toy with them in the car but I can't find any pictures of it online.... a shame!

These characters actually started out as Hallmark cards?! (no joke) Hallmark then made a deal with CBS to start their own cartoon. Sadly, after the cartoon was cancelled after 2 seasons the Hallmark line of cards was retired as well.

Here's a ling to some pics of their board game (which we LOVED as kids)

Spiderman

Wanna see the new Spiderman movie before it comes out in theaters? No problem! Check out this 25 minute clip of all the "previews" put together in chronological order. AMAZING!!

Retro Week

The Alphie 2. I remember this robot very well. A childhood friend of mine came over to our house one day and showed us a toy his mom had just bought him....then hit dropped a giant rock on it...on purpose.

He wanted to shift thru all the circuit boards instead, he laughed as he tore it apart, so we never actually got to see what this thing did!

As for what became of the kid, I'm pretty sure he's locked up in some state pen by now.

Have a good day folks!

Retro week (1)

Remember Sesame Street cars?! It sounds crazy but I think my brother Bray had a few of these back in the day. They were die cast cars that were real heavy. That's about all I can remember of them.

This week I've decided to share a ton of old toys I used to have/remember. Hope you enjoy!

Flashback Friday's

Super Pickle!!

Please don't laugh but for some reason Super Pickle meant a lot to me when I was a kid. He was a dumb toy and I realized that when I starting getting my first action figures.

Did anyone else have one of these or was it just me?!

Memory Lane Moday

Remember McDonald's Bambi toys?! WHY???
What about the Fraggle Rock ones?

What other McDonalds toys do you remember having? The McNugget Pals would've been my favorites if you don't count the Happy Meal buckets they gave out at Halloween...

Flashback Friday

Remember Nosy Bears? We didn't have any of course, but while looking thru some old photos on Google I came across this gem I'd forgotten from my past. I don't know who it was who had one but I remember when you squeezed them something would happen in their nose. Either it'd twirl around, blow up a balloon or confetti around a globe.

We were easily entertained back then I imagine.

Memory Lane Monday

So going forward on Monday's (and again on Fridays) I'm going to start posting old toys I used to play with and (or knew of) and see if I can jog anyone else's memory of them as well!

I'll start with the die cast version of the General Lee. This was a car that my brother Jeremy and I both had as kids and it was one of our original favorites. Jeremy actually found one for me at a garage sale once and gave it to me for Xmas. I have it now on my dresser (next to the 66' Batmobile Megan bought me at the Dallas Comic Con)

Pics from the con! (7)

Sorry, no more video post left! Just pics. Here's me with Power Girl...
...then me with her much more famous cousin Superman. We had a pic of me with Green Lantern and Supergirl but it was taken toward the sun and is hard to see.
Here's me with the Scarecrow (Batman villian) This was one of the best costumes at the con! But imagine my shock when I found out it was a girl!! (isn't that more scary?)

Final pics coming tomorrow!

Congratulations to Johan Santana for throwing the first Mets No-hitter. And it couldn't have happened against a better team than the defending champion St Louis Cardinals. : )
